Why would Wayne be willing to deal w/ the demotion?

 

Not sure, maybe he wouldn't be, I was spit-balling. I think the Williams / Castellini ownership group sees a lot of value in what Wayne brings to the table...behind the scenes. Just not a "face of the organization" kind of guy. Perhaps they'd leave his salary the same to take on a huge role with Player Development / Scouting...since both of those jobs are now vacant. Maybe he wants to feed his family and knows that another GM job won't be handed to him. Either way, I was asked my opinion and gave it.

I was just asking a question. I'd love him to be in that role w/ the Reds, but most guys who get to a certain level don't like going backwards w/in the club they're already w/. I'd think he'd look to be an assistant GM somewhere else before he would head up the scouting dep here.

It is irresponsible for any GM to give a reliever a four-year deal, but it's even more so when the deal soaks up over 10 percent of the signing team's payroll and the GM is only under contract for the first of those four years. There's way too much chance of this deal going south before it's over or even half over, even if it clearly does make the Reds better in 2008.

Just heard on the radio this morning the Red had 35 blown saves last year. Is that correct? Does blowing a lead in the 8th constitute a blown save? With Cordero closing now, and Weathers, Burton, and Magic, settingup do they cut that number in half? Maybe next seasons prospects are better than I thought. As far as Cordero's contract I feel the Reds had to "overpay" to get him.

This kind of comes off as the sky is falling, but this Cordero deal isn't quite working out at the moment. Is he being overused? In a rut? I don't know, but only Jason Isringhausen has more blown saves and he lost his job.

In something like 49 appearances, Cordero has only retired the side in order something like 9 times.

4 years at 46 million is awfully steep.

If the Dodgers are willing to offer up some solid prospects for a closer and they need one, I'd deal Cordero.

I agree on the last sentence. I still like the "move" to get someone like him even thought it hasn't worked out exactly to plan. Haven't seen the Reds make a move like this in a long time. He is not living up to his end of the bargin right now but I think he will get it worked out.

I liked the signing, but the contract is scary.

He has a no-trade clause to boot.

I hope so, he is leaving some pitches right over the plate right now.

He is not pitching well right now, but he is good and will turn it around. His presence in the locker room is huge to players like Cueto and Volquez though. They IDOLIZE him.
