Elliott County played Rowan County this past summer without Timmy Knipp and beat Rowan over 50 and Petit didnt have double digits. Thats saying a whole lot considering Elliott County didnt have a guy over 6'3.

Season officially starts in about 48 hours. Here's what we know:

 

Rankings don't come on the court with you. If anything, they serve as a motivation for teams that are not highly ranked and are teams deemed as "not getting respect" or "underrated".

 

Rankings don't get players scholarships. They are subjective and highly opinionated and no one really knows if they are ranked to show potential or what they've done up to this point.

 

Player rankings don't state whether a player is there for the team or for individual stats.

 

Rankings show points-per-game and rebounds, not FG%, minutes played, steals, turnovers, deflections, number of charges taken, a kid playing out of position for the betterment of his team, attitude, leadership, and "heart" to win.

 

You can politic for a ranking "vote", but you can't politic for a "win".

 

Rankings are other people's expectations of a team or player. The only expectations that count are the one's set by each team and by each player.

 

In a nutshell, rankings are better done, when the season is complete, and the facts are in.

Don't know about the hill, but Ashlland won over Montgomery 92-85. Ashland played 9 guys including two soph's and a frosh. 5 guys in double figures. :banana: exciting game both teams pressed and run and gunned the whole game.

Good game for the Ashland team . Keep it up Tomcats. ! !

I didnt see that game but it could be that Elliott Countys press took its toll on RC before they could get the ball into the big guy.

Elliott has the best bunch of ball hawkers that Ive seen in a while. With Ethans ball handling and Timmy's shooting they will be hard to handle in the 16th.

I can't disagree with what you are saying, but you are leaving some great players out of this. Let's not forget that Ferguson is most likely the best player in the region and that Evan Faulkner is a darn good player. Not to leave out Chris Knipp, he's tough as well and with the shooting of Maynard and the good play of role players like Morgan and Center. There are reasons why Elliott is this good, it's because they are a team. Their defense is impresive, and they know how to score on offense. They pass and play as a team on offense, but they don't stop there, they play as a team on defense as well, they are a TEAM, that is why they are THAT good.

Goodness, I hope for you Elliott posters that somehow the season doesn't fall short of a trip to Rupp. It sounds as if they've already punched their ticket. I agree that Elliott should be the favorite, and I don't think you'll find too many folks in the 16th who say otherwise. You get a poll from Louisville that says otherwise and the lid pops off the pressure cooker. I hope the boys aren't as overconfident as some of the posts here. There are IMO a handful of teams that on any given night can advance. Good luck to all and I hope every team avoids the injury bug.

Everyone is not saying that Elliott is a sure thing!! Any one with any sense knows better than that !!!!!!!!! But they are saying and arguing that they should be "RANKED" #1 in the 16th after the season they had last year. It wouldn't matter where the poll was from if it was your team or your child and you thought they were being misrepresented you would speak up for them I would hope.........well maybe you wouldn't either!!! If their is a post on this thread that states that Elliott posters think Eliottt cant be beat I have yet to read it. As I said all I have read is people defending the honor of where their team is ranked. Anyone with any truth in them knows that Elliott should be ranked #1 after going to state last year and bringing all starters and bench back!!!!!! I will state again also that that doesn't mean that someone wont knock them off first round of districts. Also I have taken a poll of most of their devout fans who post on here and no one has given them a perfect record not even against 16th region opponents.:thumb:

I believe everyone that knows the Region very well, knows that Elliott is the team to beat. Can Rose Hill, or any other team, beat Elliott? Yes, on the right night, but Elliot is still at the top.

 

Like I said, the Elliott/RH conversation will go one for a few years, OR will something happen that will make this choice easier???:confused::D

You are absolutely right!!! Something could happen. Elliott could meet Rose Hill in the all a and Rose Hill could beat them. Then Rose Hill posters would have the cat on their back

I saw the Elliott boys play and they look bigger, stronger, and faster. With the fact they won last year and are as I just mentioned, shouldn't they be the run away favorite? I certainly believe so. It will take a special night for any team in the 16th to beat them. I'll even go out and say they have what it takes to go far in the state.
