What about this.

Invest in the Youth Program. Invest in the Middle School Program. As those move from the youth, to middle, to High School Programs, they have the tools needed to become successful.

And your Middle school is?????........

What is the name of LEX. Cath. middle school?

My problem is that we invest in them and you are playing them on your team.

And round and round we go!!!!

The middles schools that are in the diocese of Lexington are feeder schools to Lexington Catholic. If a kid wants to play middle school sports, they have the opportunity to participate on a single team- Lexington Catholic Middle School Teams. The reason that this is done is because some of the Catholic Grade and middle schools have as few as 3 or 4 kids in the seventh and eigth grades. Can't field even a middle school basketball team with 3 kids. Plus, no kid that doesn't go to a Catholic middle school can play for the Middle School Program. So, the middle school program at Lexington Catholic is made up of kids whoses parents pay tuition to those schools. Ask any of the people from Louisville to tell you about the CSAA, and the differences between middle school programs there.

We don't have time to list all your middle schools. Covers at least 6 counties.

Absolutely not. But in the 3 cases I am familiar with, it went AAU and from public to private.

Your experence. I've seen it both ways.

St. Juillian there in Middlesboro is a direct feeder into Lexington Catholic.

Then my question to you would be this. How can Lex. Cath. win a state championship if they cannot even field a middle school football team.

I said some Catholic Middle schools don't have the numbers to field teams. So to include those kids who want the opportunity to play sports, all students at Grade/Middle schools have the opportunity to participate.

Who are you talking about? I thought we were talking about your school there.

Lexington Catholic High School is grade 9-12.

Its my understanding that for budgetary reasons, the Lexington public school district some years ago severely limited the number of games the middle school teams can play and cut back monetary support for those teams. Can someone from Lex confirm that? If true, has the effect of such not only hindered the quality of instruction and experience the kids playing in the public middle school teams receive, as well as drive some kids into the Catholic middle schools so they can play on Lex Cath's middle school team, thus increasing the chances that when it comes time to pick a high school, they are going to go where their LexCath middle school teammates go....LexCath? I've heard this from sports minded business type acquaintences in Lex. but do not know it for sure. Most of them are graduates of the public schools in Lex and would prefer their kids go to the public schools for loyalty sake, but say they are almost forced to send their kids to the Catholic middle schools (and they are not Catholic) if they want their kids to play in a competitive middle school football program.

LN, I don't know if that is 100% true, but I can't say it's not, about the funding. I will say that more and more Non-Catholic families have decided to start attending Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian, and other Private Middle and High schools, but I believe as LBBC put it in another thread, that KERA may have alot to do with that.

FWIW, the percentage of Catholics on a given sports team at Lexington Catholic is probably much higher than the percentage of Catholic in the school as a whole- the notion that any non-Catholic that goes to a Catholic school just to play sports is false.

As a parent at Bell can I take it upon myself to go out and reecruit so my kid plays on a good team. NO

Sure you can.

You can recruit students who already go to your school to play if they do not do so.

You can advertise your school acheivements on a public billboard. It can say "we have the greatest team in the world" if you want.

You can wear t-shirts other clothing highlighting your school all you want.

None of these things above are in violation of bylaw 10. None of the them.

What you can not do is:

Target and initiate any specific discussions with specific students that are not already at the your school or not part of the 'feeder' school system. The Case Situation pages associated with Bylaw 10 call this 'initlal contact'.

Here is the link to Bylaw 10:

http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw10.pdf

The core language of the bylaw is not all that bad. But the Case Situations associated with it seem to expand the base what is in the actual rule to situations that you can not at all find in the base wording. It is as if a liberal court got hold if this (by)law and decided to rewrite it using the Case Situation section.

The actual bylaw targets the transfer of existing students and the offer of material rewards as an enticement. The Case Situation goes into 'initial contact' (not referenced in the actual bylaw), 'feeder schools' (not referenced in the actual bylaw) and a lot of other added and expanded details that are not part of the actual bylaw.

So dont feel bad about not knowing if you can recruit or not. You can 'market' and 'sell' your school and the sport all you want. This might be considered recuiting but it is legal. However, the recuiting and targeting of specific individual students is what Bylaw 10 attempts to (poorly) address.

My understanding from a parent 2 years back was that the public schedule was only 6 games. LexCath MS schedule was 10 games plus 2 playoff games this year.

I can verify that the majority of the MS school players have stayed together the last few years. There are 30 sophomores on the LexCath roster this year. 22 of them played LexCath MS as 8th graders 2 years ago including starters Nic Ward and Lloyd Amos.

It is important to understand that public school students can not play for LexCath MS football - even if they are Catholic. To play on the Lexington Catholic MS team you must go to the Catholic MS schools or to a school that does not have a football program and is not a feeder into a high school with an organized football program. So there is already commitment to the private school approach during the MS school years.

I want an open house an invite everyone that is not in my school district.
