Too institutionally different

Sticky, I don't think that I as a public school can do some of the things that privates do. The open house for instance, if a child goes to Corbin, lives in Corbin, I can't recruit him to come to Bell for academics and athletics. I don't think that I can send flyers with our total school experience on it and he/she will be eligible in athletics, even though I'm not just targeting athletics. I believe that it is a double standard. Along with finanicial aid it is way out of balance.

Cover Corner said it best when he said that it is much like the college experience. From recruiting, to financial aid and no boundries these things give you an advantage that other do not have.

It is so obvious that with this practice an alarming amout of good athletes just happen to be involved.

I'm suprised that no one has commented on the Tn. post. Split and multiplier with city school and private winning. Why do you think that others are trying to level the field. Are all these other states wrong, are all the schools in KY that voted for this wrong? We are all wrong except for the handful of private schools.

For the bolded, let me tell you what I have found. You can have any student come to your open house, and show off your academic and athletic programs. In other words, you can do this.

There is a difference with what I put beside #2. You can have the open house, but you can only send fliers to the students that are in your immediate district or that are zoned to go to your school. So if a kid from Corbin comes to the open house on thier own, you can do everything at an open house you would to to anyother kid. You just can't send them the invitation to come to open house.

Yes there are some Private schools that have this, but it is not limited to Private Schools. Some Public schools have this advantage. Some Private schools do not.

That's why people are upset, I can't fault that reasoning either.

My opinion on the multiplier is this. I have no problem with it, but to apply it to all private schools only would not work in KY as it does in TN.

A point made over and over again is that you CAN. If YOUR Board of Education deems that they'll take out of district students.

This is the fundamental problem. A lot of the public schools that have a problem with private schools is because they can get kids from anywhere and don't have a boundary. Well, take a look at who imposes a boundary on a school. It's the school district. So, instead of opening up the enrollment to their school, they'd rather close it to others.

This is also a reason many believe that after the privates are exiled, independent school districts are next....

CC the #2 If I open up my enrollment then I should not have an disrtict or a zone, but someone else has set this zone. KHSAA or Corbin or my own board? This is where I don't think that KHSAA will let Public schools go.

If your school board wants to open their boundaries, it's open to everyone...

Just as sticky said. ONLY you control your own bondaries. The KHSAA has no say over your boundaries. Nor does another school district.

Sticky, we are assuming that they will be next, as far as TN that has not happened and Maryville has dominated for sometime and no one is screaming for their removal. So I can't say.

Seems hypocritical, don't you think?

So with open enrollment I can go after anyones students?

The way I read the KHSAA bylaws it does mean that. Those students in your new zone are just as much your students as thier studnets.

Another problem IMO. Students don't belong to anyone. You can go after any student. You can go after any parents child. However, they don't belong to any school...

The kids that go to ST. Julian Catholic Grade school in Bell Co. have as much right to go to Bell Co. High, as they do to go anywhere they want.

I think that with these moves by the TSSAA that there is no room for anyone to say anything. They are operating under the same policies. Not only rules by the TSSAA but school policies for admissions and aid.

I think if we in KY went to some type of multiplier, we would have to take into account all of the differences in schools, not just public/private, or open enrollment, or we would still have some of the "problems" we see.
