December 11, 200718 yr Answer. This is why we need seperation in public/ private. A split. It is being taken advantage of......
December 11, 200718 yr How do you propose that privates get their students if they are not allowed to recruit their students? Notice I said students and not athletes. Do you believe that athletes are not being recruited along with students?
December 11, 200718 yr Do you believe that athletes are not being recruited along with students? Considering they are students, yes. Is athletics addressed in the recruiting? It has to be since that is a part of student life? But a lot of times the recruiting comes not from the schools but the parents/kids. Former student of mine has a child that is a good MS player. He has been playing on an AAU team. They had a good experience with it. A lot of the parents/players, if not all I am not sure, play for the same private school. They told him how great their school was and how he needs to come play with them at the private school. He is presently playing for that private school. Is that improper recruiting? Is it illegal recruiting?
December 11, 200718 yr What LBBC just described is possibly illegal according to Bylaw 10. But Public school parents have done the same thing.
December 11, 200718 yr As a parent at Bell can I take it upon myself to go out and reecruit so my kid plays on a good team. NO

December 11, 200718 yr When a Private School has an open house, there is no athletic specific recruiting going on. Every aspect of student life is covered with athletics purposfully reciveing the least amount of attention.

December 11, 200718 yr As a parent at Bell can I take it upon myself to go out and reecruit so my kid plays on a good team. NO You can but it is illegal. It happens at publics as well as privates. IT HAPPENS AT BOTH. Don't make the mistake of thinking it doesn't.
December 11, 200718 yr Someone told me in one of these threads that they changed that. I think I remember that thread, but don't remember the end of it. I do know from what you posted, it is hard to prove because of hearsay, and Bylaw 10 is seen as not specific enough.

Nice talking point but we know that athletics and the FCCLA club does not carry the same amount of weight. So, while we have possibly the best vocational student clubs overall in the state, that does not carry the same weight as having the best football, basketball, etc, team in the state.
December 11, 200718 yr So its OK. No it is not OK, but Public Schools have and have been caught breaking the rules of recruiting too.

And my point on why the proposal by the privates for a specific investigator is not the solve all as these things are extremely difficult to prove.

Sucessful programs let their prodcut showcase itself on the stage where they will be seen most. Plus because of the animosity of some, Private Schools have tried to downplay some, the athletic side of student life at Open Houses.
