Pat Forde UK Loss to GW was more shocking then App St beating Mich

Featured Replies

I actually found it as a decent debate. The only denial is that this one of the top upsets of all time, which I am not buying that unless people are only reflecting upon the last 2 years of college basketball. Not a whole lot of 18% bantering. Now if UK were loaded with NBA talent (and they are not) and a preseason favorite to win it all, I would be more inclined to agree. This team is as much as a question mark as their performance the other night. The name on the jersey and the fact it was one of the first and only games going on this year have made it as newsworth as it has.

That's my view...I'm not trying to discount that Gardner Webb going into Rupp Arena and beating UK is a huge upset. It just doesn't rate on the same level of App State of Michigan, IMO.

As this is one of the biggest upsets in the history of college basketball.

Nope.

ALL good teams...heck many people picked Duke to lose that one to VCU.....Gardner Webb was #300.......look up the rankings of those above teams.

 Once again your bias clouds your view of the point.

Sportsnation poll... 83% said App St over Michigan was a bigger upset.

So close to the magic 82% number ohhh the possibilities.

Probably because UK hasn't been as good in basketball as Michigan has been in football the past few years.

Obviously the powers that be don't think I'm instigating...  If you have a problem with my posts, don't quote them.

Besides that, find something false about my statement...

You are constantly tracking the UK threads and instigating argumentative responses and even on several occasions have admitted it. Why?? A little competitive ribbing is one thing but your usual nasty garbage is irritating, which is what you try to make it.

While comparing the two sports are difficult, I wouldn't say Michigan has been better in football than UK in basketball, and if true, its at a very slim margin....

Michigan last won a NC in '97, while UK's was last in '98... Michigan has won one BCS bowl which was in 1999 against Alabama...They also won two Citrus Bowls, won an Outback bowl, lost in an Outback Bowl, lost in a Citrus Bowl, lost in three other BCS bowls, and lost in the Outback Bowl..

On the other hand, UK has won one NC in that time, gotten to another, 3 Elite Eight Exits, and 2 Sweet 16's Exits...

So there, that's false...

Of that time, can you find out how long both teams were ranked in the Top 10? How many of those years were each considered LEGIT National Title contenders? If the nation thinks the Appy State upset was bigger, what was their reasoning? What made Michigan so much better than UK that the G-Webb upset apparently isn't very shocking to 95% of the country?

I'd say Michigan was considered a NC contender, THIS YEAR, that's why it was much more shocking. Also, you see these types of upsets each year in the beginning of the year in CB. An upset of this magnitude in basketball isn't such a huge dead because it will not end the team's season. Like JS pointed out in another thread, Santa Clara bea UNC in their NC year, and they were back to number one a couple months later. While it was a shocker, people didn't talk about it for the next month or two... I would say the reason it wasn't as shocking was due to the differences in the two sports, not the two teams...

Since Michigan has made 5 BCS Bowls, we'll say they were LEGIT NC contenders those years...

Since UK has made 5 elite eights, we'll say they were LEGIT NC contenders those years...

Not a big difference either way you look at it...

I would say the reason it wasn't as shocking was due to the differences in the two sports, not the two teams...

I GUARANTEE that if UK is a bubble team come March, this loss will be 10x as big as it is now...

That's probably the truest statement you've made in your 14,000+ posts.
