You can't cure all social ills, and those that have self control shouldn't have to be stopped from enjoying something just because of the few that have no self control. Why should we keep prayers out of schools because some people can't control themselves and I guess will be swayed to adopt Jesus Christ in their heart and live for the benefit of others as he did. Why should I be stopped from enjoying something just because of the few that have no self control around praying? Funny, that prayer is something horrible that government wants no part of. Now, that I have had close to 20 years of teaching and dealing with families that their kids are horrible and ruined by the vices that their parents CANNOT stay away from, it horrifies me that our government is saying, HEY, it is a GREAT idea to make it EVEN EASIER for people to ruin their lives.

Come on LBC, you know that prayer is not banned. It is public prayer led by staff, adults and administration. To compare the two is apples and pomegranates. You usuall make good points without distorting the issues.

I have NEVER seen the government say that prayer to God is bad. And I mean NEVER. This is a charge made by those that are upset that tax supported schools are prevented from using tax dollars to coerce people into their brand of religion. I have never seen anyone try to prevent people from praying in school. I wanted my children to be exposed to a specific religion in school so I paid for it. I won't pay my tax dollars to have kids exposed to someone elses religion. If you want school sponsored prayer in school, find a school or start a school.
November 12, 200718 yr 1. I don't gamble. 2. My spouse and kid's do not gamble. We hardly buy lotto ticket's. 3. I have no problem with KY allowing it. My spouse does. Georgia passed a law that the lottery would pay for college for the first two year's if you carried a B average. I don't have a problem with that at all. First child went to school on this system before we moved back to KY.
November 12, 200718 yr I would like to see how the state plans on spending the revenue generated. I would also like to see the state make each casino location pay something like a 100 million dollar application fee. I know I have a vested interest in this but since casinos will no doubt cause law enforcement more work (and money) I would like to see the revenue repair the police pension fun. In addition, I would like to see the money fund capital projects in school districts that get the short end of the stick because of the SEEK formula. What I would be absolutely against is the revenue going into any type of general fund... Anyone else?
November 12, 200718 yr If the state gets away from the "only at racetracks" idea that has been proffered before, I hope they don't get stupid and not divert some of the revenues to Ky's horse industry in terms of breeder incentives and purse incentives. Non-traditional horse racing states such as West Virginia and Delaware are positioned to chip away at Kentucky's dominant position in the sport if there are not programs in place to help sweeten the pot for breeders and owners. There's a reason the quality of racing at Turfway Park is so low, and it's not just because they run in the winter.
