Colts: Caught cheating?

Featured Replies

How is that cheating?

I'd say it is because it seems like the home team went beyond the, "spontaneous crowd noise ," with a cd of crowd noise. And since they control anything being played over the loud speakers, they are in violation.

The home club does not have the prerogative to decide if such sound hampers signal calling. While spontaneous crowd noises may be beyond immediate control, noise of any kind (music, horns, gongs, drums, etc.) that is under club control must cease when the play clock (40 or 25 second) is running and the visiting team is in possession of the ball. Flagrant attempts by cheerleaders, mascots or the public-address system to encourage crowd noise for the purpose of disrupting the visiting team's offense while the play clock is running is prohibited. The use of noise meters or such messages as "Noise!," "Let's hear it!," "Raise the Roof," "Let's go Crazy," "Pump it up," "12th Man" are prohibited at any time during the game. These examples are not limited to the foregoing, but also would include similar messages that encourage crowds to make random noise in order to disrupt the opposition. The prohibitions specified in this section also apply during kicking plays.

I don't really care...it's part of the game...just like I didn't really have a problem with filming the coaches by the Pats....you still have to go out and win the game. People have said for years that the Colts "pipe" in sound...again, I have no problem with that...IMO, you should be able to get your stadium as loud as possible.

Sounds to me like a CD with crowd noise got hung up. There could be other electronic explanations, but is sounds like the accusations of crowd noise being piped in may be true.

Has the NFL pursued this?

Yeah, but that's the ownership, not the guys playing or coaching the game. And ownership wouldn't be negatively affected by that kind of penalty, they'll still be hand over fist.

You just hate Manning for his Volunteer days. :p

Maybe so, but I don't see the problem. Doesn't it obstruct the defense as much as the offense? Plus this isn't on the level of blatantly video taping hand signals from opposing coaches.

Always have, always will … :D

It's only used when the Colts are on defense in an effort to cause problems with the offense's snap count, in the hopes it will cause a false start or delay penalty. In other words, the infraction is committed in the hopes it will give the team a competitive advantage. No different than what the Pats got busted for, IMO.

These kind of accusations go back years, I remember complaints of the Vikings doing it when they had decent teams a few years ago. Not restricted to dome teams, I know there have been complaints regarding Seattle doing the same thing.

I understand why it isn't allowed, but if the offense/team is good enough, should noise really matter?

Because the Colts have the darling head coach and the poster boy quarterback, this will just get swept under the rug. Or just get forgotten as we continue on with the season. It's called a home field advantage for a reason, let teams do whatever they can to gain an edge, within reason of course.

If they are found to have cheated, then they should be punished. It cuts both ways, IMO. Classless is classless.

Its common, but its cheating.... They should get punished if true.

If people say the Pats cheated for what they did then yes the Colts cheated with the fake crowd noise. I don't care either way because if they "cheated" it sure didn't help them. Pats won. Pats will go 16-0 & win the super bowl. Yippy ki yay.
