Can you be pro life and still support the death penalty?

There are innocent people serving life terms in prison right now, I guarantee it. Is that any more fair? Mistakes can be made, and that is sad, but that doesn't mean we should keep cold blooded murderers alive.

My sentiments exactly, Run To State. Great Post. You cannot compare the two. Yes, I am Pro-Life. I am for protecting the lives of innocent unborn children and the lives of victims of vicious cold blooded murderers.

If you're looking to rationalize, then yes you can.

 

However, I'd say the real answer is that you cannot be for one and against the other. If life is precious and you believe that God is the only arbiter of life then its a simple answer.

 

I completely understand the rationalization as we all want evil to suffer. However, if we truly believe that we're all sinners and have been blessed with grace then I'm not sure how you say the DP is fine but abortion is not.

We are all sinners blessed by grace, but only those who CHOOSE to receive God's grace receive its fullness.

 

The door is open to all who will walk through. Sadly, few truly do.

 

I see no contradiction in being anti-abortion and pro-death penalty for the worst of the worst within society who value human life so little THEY ultimately pass judgment upon themselves by willingly and wantonly cutting short the lives of others.

 

The entire history of mankind has held that human life was/is precious... from unborn children to those of murder victims. It is this extremely high value placed upon human life that made abortion horrible and the death penalty justifiable.

 

It is only recently that we encounter supposedly "enlightened" individuals who fight to extend the lives of evil men with truly dark souls while at the same time attempting to justify the evisceration of infants from mother's wombs for nothing more than convenience. This makes no sense whatsoever.

Key difference is that it is an adult who knows the laws and choose that path and the forfeiting of their life.

 

In essence, it is a chosen form of suicide.

Simple, those who passed their own judgment on an innocent victim also passed judgment on their own life. They lose it since they took someone else’s.

I have a problem with this one myself. I am against the death penalty and abortion, but I have to say I am not going to protest march or rock the boat either way for either issue, only to say that morally I think that they are both wrong, yet there are times when I feel empathy for people that are victims of crimes and for women forced to make that choice. I don't ever agree with the death penalty or abortion, but I can empathize with the decisions and respectfully keep my nose out of it.

You're kidding, right? You don't really believe the justice system is 100 percent correct in getting the right person, do you?

You are making quite an assumption here that all those who oppose death penalty much also be for abortion. You are wrong on many people.

I never made such a statement much less that assumption. I am merely stating that it is far more intellectually honest for one who opposes the death penalty to also oppose abortion. This is especially true for those who oppose the death penalty on the grounds that one accused killer out of 100 may indeed be innocent. I can assure you that 100% of all infants put to death via abortion are innocent.

That's also why we as Americans do not need to turn more keys over to a bigger and more intrusive government. Rather then finding more ways for more people to latch onto massive government breasts, we need to find more ways to wean viable lives from the government breast and teach them self sufficiency. I can't believe so many supposedly intelligent individuals can't grasp the logic of this... except for those who seek to derive their powers through elected office.

The world might be a better place if we imposed the death penalty on the murderers who have abortions... Before you scoff at this, remember what the Almighty did at Sodam and Gamora.

He also sent the flood when people got too far out of line...

The old testiment paints a little different picture of God's value of our Earthly lives.
