As for Ashland, some posters were so high on coach Hart last football season and now many think he's on the short track out of town. So, I wonder if Biggs doesn't live up to the expectations of Tomcat nation, will he be on the Flynn track out of town?

I think that it's hard not to say some really good things for what the Lewis Co. coach gets done there in Vanceburg.

No. I don't think Ashland has the talent to win the region this year. I am saying that they have more talent this year than they will have next year or for several years thereafter. Of course, a few relocations and/or foreign exchangers could change all of this but I am going on what is in the system now.

 

As for Biggs, I believe he is a decent coach. They won't lose games because of him. When they lose it will be because they have less talent.

 

It is amazing just how smart coaches look when they have talent. A poor coach with good talent will beat a good coach with poor talent. For example, I can remember when Mays was seen as a lesser coach in the region. All of a sudden, he looks much more able. What changed? The talent level.

 

 

That is one of the more knowledgeable post I have ever read on this site. No matter how good a coach is, he can't win without players. Mays is a perfect example of that. He has always been a good coach, but never has had enough talent to showcase his abilities.

Buddy Biggs is hands down the best coach in the 16th and is one of the top coaches in the state of Kentucky!

Did everybody forget Coach Zornes is back? I also think Coach Biggs is an excellent coach. What is Coach Mays all-time record?

May be... but he'd better be one of the best magicians in the state if he plans on staying in Ashland very long... :lol:

 

Sad thing is, it won't be his fault. Matt Thomas is an outstanding athlete, but Ashland needs another one or two of him to succeed this season.

Misinformation is an amazing thing.

There are alot of acusations towards a couple of area coaches here. Do you have any real facts to back up these statements? If so, please delight us with your information. BTW welcome to BGP, but please do not come on here to slander some good coaches/people on here.

My apologies, please excuse my rookie mistake. Please allow me to rephrase in a more delicate manner.

 

Good players make good coaches. Bad players make bad coaches. Take a look at local coaches for example. Mayes was not considered one of the top coaches in the area until he had an exceptional bunch of kids. Dodd was catching serious heat in Russell, even though he is in the NAIA Hall of Fame, until Vanhoose, Blair, and Robinson fell into his lap. Cooksey is considered a wizard in Westwood but was not well liked in Greenup because he could will the Kentucky Derby with plow horses.

 

And Ashland always thinks their coach is the best until he doesn't match Paul Patterson's accomplishments. Which is unfair, ask Mike Flynn.

Leach obviously has a great resume' but you can assure yourself that if he isn't winning in January people in Lloyd will be on his back.

342-358 IMO not bad for a 275-300 student school. Not a very big talent pool biggest part of the time.

The only way I see Buddy leaving Ashland is to follow the career path of his friend Kelly Wells and coach at the college level, before leaving Pendleton he showed interest in the Thomas More job in Northern Kentucky but either didn't get it or didn't want it in the end. Buddy Biggs is a great coach with his only knock being he stays set on his five starters and doesn't really deviate from the plan he has in place with that group.
