Sleep Aids

If you had asked this two months ago, I would have suggested watching an Atlanta Braves telecast. Asleep in two innings tops.

Ironic thread given the times of the posts.

Clonidine is often prescribed for blood pressure and opiate withdrawal. This is the first (in 30 years of nursing) that I have heard it prescribed for sleep. A side effect is sleepiness, but I wouldnt take it for that.

Try Advil p.m. 2-3 and you should sleep like a baby. The p.m. part is Benedryl. You may want to try plain Benedryl (diphenhydramine). 50mg a night should do it. Good part is that you do not need a prescription.

I have read that Melatonin works but should not be taken on a regular basis. Your body produces its own melatonin and if you take it regularly your body will cease to make its own (per the report).

Like Barry Manilow?
Isn't he like your all time favorite singer?
Beer, wine, bourbon...

I'm not addicted, but I do frequest this stuff sometimes before going to bed, especially on the weekend.:creepy:

Patterned breathing...

Long, slow, deep breathes over and over again usually put's me to sleep. It slows the heart rate down and completely relaxes your body...

I take trazadone. Works and I have tried several.. With this one I do not wake up drowzy at all.

You should try the drug free way first, IMO.

Melatonin is a synthetic form of the hormone released by your brain when you are sleepy. It is why milk makes you sleepy. It is sold in the vitamin section at walmart.

You'll have plenty of time to sleep when you're dead! (What movie?)

Roadhouse!

I take Remeron before I go to bed, and it seems to work most of the time.

Well, that and a turkey dinner should do it then. :thumb:

Be careful some people can't take those synthetic things I can't take niacin, make me turn red and break out.

Yes it is, also I have had students in school that used it for Touretts Systrom. Don't think I would advise taking it for sleeping problems.
