That is the first thing that they need to change IMHO. We were talking about this last night with PRP, we figure we are most likely going to see a rematch of St.X vs Butler and PRP vs Manual, how is that fun?? What is the point going to the playoffs only to face a team that crushed you/you crushed a couple weeks back, we should be playing teams in other districts IMHO.

Much courage to the rebuilding Butler program. And yet the playoff system will have these two meeing again. St. X's starter, I believe, did not play the entire first quarter?

Under this system there will be some teams that have no business being in the playoffs, but under the old system there were times when teams that were pretty good got left out while in other districts only one or two teams even had a winning record. The biggest problem now is that we have to play in district. We already know how teams faired in district it would be like pairing SEC teams against themselves in the first rounds of the NCAA final four. If the point is to give more teams a chance at a playoff experience we need to have teams play teams from other districts, otherwise just take the top team from each district and we will have a champ by Thanksgiving.

There seem to be problems with Butler's football program. Players have left throughout the season, including several this week. My understanding is that some starters, including the QB, were freshmen.

Losing makes everything harder. It is much harder to put on the pads everyday when you are losing than when you win.

Were there and 1 seed v. 4 seed upsets last year in the first year that teams played teams in their own districts in the first round?

 

I know there were always a few most years when teams were playing outside their district in the first round of the playoffs.
