September 24, 200719 yr Alot of schools have some breakout years then fall back. Can UK sustain this success or even close to it? What will the expectations for next year be? And the year after? Is Brooks dooming himself by having a really good year? UK fans notoriously have unrealistic expectations for the basketball team, will that carry over to football or does the lack of success for soo many years give them more leeway?
September 24, 200719 yr This is THE year for UK. All of the pieces are in place as far as experienced players in key slots. Next year? Defense will continue to get better as they're pretty young. Offense? Depends on qb play. The running game will be the first and second choice as they return some good backs. I think they'll be solid but not strong early. I don't know how good either Fidler, the kid from OH, or Curtis Pulley can be.
September 24, 200719 yr UK is losing a LOT after this year. They've got some talent coming in, but I don't expect them to match what they do this year. I also don't expect a complete backslide to 2 and 3 win seasons.

Is Brooks dooming himself by having a really good year? Wow! we are only 1/3 of the way through this season and the next 1/3 is brutal. No one is thinking about next season. I would not call it a break out season just yet. I believe it will be, but its not happened yet.
September 24, 200719 yr Lets focus on this year because its not half way over..... Well said! But to address the topic, .... UK has more depth and the big losses from this year will be at QB and WR. The defense is still fairly young and getting better. The O line has 2 senior starters and a very good frosh class to look forward to. Brooks has built the program slowly and I like their odds of sustaining more success than UK football fans are used to.
September 24, 200719 yr UK loses Woodson, Little, Tamme, and Burton. Ouch baby. As CSHS said above, UK will have to morph (slightly) into a running-based attack as they'll have some very solid backs returning. Defense should be okay. Kicking game can't get any worse, can it? Schedule will be more difficult (Conf. portion at least) with Florida and Tennessee on the road and, I'm presuming, a trip to either LSU or Auburn. I'm guessing 6-6 or so, and I'd think UL will win the first game of the season.

September 24, 200719 yr With that, and assuming the non-conf game that is still to get added is winnable, I'll stick with 6-6.
September 24, 200719 yr 6-6 or 7-5, ... 8-4 best case. As far as the kicking game, .. I have had no problem with Masthay punting. Sieber has just been inconsistent.
September 24, 200719 yr I have had no problem with Masthay punting. Sieber has just been inconsistent. Masthay still takes too long to get it off. Inconsistent is bad from your kicker. How about defending the return? Awful. If UK is going to pull another big upset this year they're going to need to stabilize their special teams.
September 24, 200719 yr I think that UK has a pretty good schedule next year. I mean they have a good chance with that schedule depending on recruits this year. It'll be exciting to see.

If UK is going to pull another big upset this year they're going to need to stabilize their special teams. The punting game was stellar on Saturday. 43 yard average, ... 0 return yards. I am with you in that I would like to see the kickoff team do more of this although Masthay has put a few in the end zone this year.

Perhaps a 1-AA team like Murray State? I'm pretty sure it will not be Eastern and I can't see a Western game either.
