It's a battle of arguably the top two senior quarterbacks in the nation when Brian Brohm and Louisville visits rival Kentucky and Andre' Woodson. The Cardinals have won the last four against the Wildcats, who haven't defeated a top 10 team since 1977

 

Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm doesn't need to look far to get motivated to face Kentucky -- the billboards around the city remind him every day.

 

Brohm tries to complete his collegiate career undefeated against his intrastate rivals as the 9th-ranked Cardinals travel to Lexington on Saturday for bragging rights in the Commonwealth.

 

Despite the change in coaches from Bobby Petrino to Steve Kragthorpe, Brohm has picked up where he left off as Louisville (2-0) has decimated two lesser opponents to start the season. The senior has completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 776 yards and nine touchdowns without an interception in helping the Cardinals lead the nation in scoring average (65.5) and total yards (692.0).

 

But even with its rise to national prominence, Louisville often plays second fiddle to Kentucky. The Wildcats' athletic department took a creative approach in promoting the football team this year, putting up billboards of prominent players around Louisville that caught Brohm's attention.

 

"I think a lot of our guys use it as motivation," said Brohm, who threw for 254 yards and a touchdown in last year's 59-28 rout of the Wildcats. "You come into summer workouts and you have to drive by the billboards every day. It's something to get fired up about."

Wildcats quarterback Andre Woodson has been impressive, completing 35 of 51 passes for 468 yards and five touchdowns. His streak of 213 consecutive attempts without an interception dating back to last season is one shy of the SEC record held by Georgia's David Greene.

 

Louisville has won the last four games between the teams to trail the all-time series 10-9, outscoring Kentucky 158-76 in that span. The Cardinals are 9-4 since the 95-year rivalry was renewed in 1994.

Let's keep it real. I'm both a Louisville and Kentucky fan. But all fairness, let's be realistic, Kentucky stands no chance against the Cards. I'm picking Louisville to win 48-27.

 

Of course everyone would love to see the Cats pull off the upset, but it's not happening, Brian Brohm is too prepared. The Cards coming off a un-focused game against Middle Tenn. look for the Cards to win this one by 3 TD's.

 

Kentucky has a pretty good chance actualy. I did pick U of L to win, but that doesn't mean that's what will happen. Playing at UK isn't going to be easy for the Card's. If Brohm does throw for 3 touchdowns thats 21 points, Kentucky can score 21 points on this U of L D, IMO. I do think Louisville will win this game, but UK does have a pretty good chance to pull the upset.

I am calling the 'Cats in the (mild) upset. I think it is destiny. We are not particularly better than them, if at all. It is just our time. This sets up our run to back-to-back bowls and shuts up those westerners for a while.

UL should definitely be the favorite, but to completely rule out UK's chances at this point is ludacris. UL's defense has struggled in the first two games (as has UK's), but both teams have very effective offenses with weapons everywhere. Throw in the fact that this is a rivalry game and the game is being played in Lexington and I don't see any reason why the game won't be competitive.

It would have been nice to attend this game but since a certain team did not want to use our field and play on Friday night as to not give us HOME field advantage, we have to play on Sat night. I don't think it would have mattered where the game is played.

 

I think all high school games should be played on Friday night. Sat is for COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!
