Charlie has brought in sexier recruits (ie Claussen) and has a Super Bowl ring collection. Add on that ND is very image conscious about firing coaches and Charlie is going to get a longer rope than Ty - fair or not.

 

The excuse that Charlie is still getting HIS players in in assinine since Ty had the same situation with getting HIS players in as well. If you're evaluating coaches over the same time period, they are playing under the same rules so the crappy line of thinking that says "he hasn't gotten his players in" is simply misguided and shortsighted.

 

Even as an ND fan, I must admit that the NEXT big game Charlie leads his team to victory in will be his FIRST. Ty had more than that.

 

Fair question and ND will be put in an uncomfortable position IF this season plays out poorly.

Notre Dame will be fine. They'll have to suffer through this season and maybe next to some degree. I think they'll be better next season, but probably not as good as people expect. Two years from now, I expect Notre Dame to be back in the picture and they should stay there on a pretty consistent basis after that...I may be wrong, but I think Weis will get the job done. He's been recruiting well and once he has a full roster of his recruits, Notre Dame's talent, speed and athleticism should be at a point where it's able to hold it's own with the big boys better than it has in some time...once they get there and have some success, I think they'll be consistently good. It takes time...something most fans don't realize, or won't accept.

 

Whether Willingham's firing was fair or not is irrelevant to me...it's over and done with. Hopefully, ND learned from it and won't make the same mistakes again.

No offense, 5, but the point of the thread IS whether Ty got the same treatment that Charlie will get/has gotten. So what MAY happen with ND in the next couple of years is not germane.

I agree and think Ty deserved at least another season. Bottom line, big boy universities are not going to accept back-to-back poor seasons (which is what Ty had following his first good one). Weis' first two seasons may have been against weak competition, but he has still gone to back-to-back BCS games, fair or unfair. I assure you if Weis has back-to-back really poor seasons, he will be out like Ty. Up until now, he has yet to have one, that is the difference.

Charlie went to the BCS games with Ty's recruits, correct? Didn't a few of them get drafted recently?

 

When did we start giving "attaboys" for coming close to victory over top teams?

 

Charlie has , in honesty, proven nothing as far as winning big games at ND. I hope he changes that soon.

I have my doubts as to whether Charlie is the answer. I hope I'm wrong because when the Irish are good, it is good for college football in general (kind of like General Motors in the old days)........It foments interest and discussion.

Why does everything revert back to that??? It's a crutch that our society leans on when they get the answers that they don't like.

I know this is unthinkable by the Irish faithful on here, but what will you "Weis-fans" on here think if ND starts say 0-8 or 1-7 before the laughably weak last four games of their schedule?? First loss by 30 at home to a then unranked opponent, and then a 17 point dog to an 80 year old coach isn't exactly what the Irish mistique was built on, and I'm a fan of theirs??
