September 5, 200719 yr Honestly, I am a huge of a Weis/ND fan on this website... but, I honestly feel the administration went a little ga ga over his first season. The difference between the two is how their first season played out. Both had great runs, made BCS games, lost when they got there in not-so-good fashion. The difference was that Weis' team was a lot more exciting. Sad, but true. Ty's first team was carried by a veteran defense but very lack-luster performances on the offensive end and started three different QBs different the season. His recruiting was not that of an elite program in his two off-seasons, and the offensive product did nothing but sputter. Weis' first year brought excitement (though the results were similar), but there was a lot more buzz with Weis coming off another Super Bowl win, scoring points left and right, Heisman front runner returning, verbal from the '07 #1 recruit. In short, Weis brought in a lot more leverage after his first season than Willingham.

September 5, 200719 yr Okay, I know I'm a little slow, but let me see if I understand this "ND" logic: * Tyrone couldn't recruit * Charlie's recruits have been no impact yet * Charlie took ND to two BCS bowls with no impact from his recruits Hmm? Verrrrrrrrrry interesting. By the way, no one plays more golf than Steve Spurrier and he has done okay. I'm relatively certain that Tyrone wasn't run out of South Bend because his handicap index is a 7.0 (no, I'm not making that up).

Everyone says Chuck can recruit, but says give his guys time to mature in to his system? Sounds like a double standard???? I agree you can't judge Chucks recruits until next year. I just wished folks would have waited to see what Ty's recruits could have done..... Wait a minute we did. They went to 2 BCS bowls......

September 5, 200719 yr What did he get out of those first 2 recruiting seasons??? 2 Bowl game losses. One loss by 27 & another by 14. Those were Tyrone's recruits.

September 5, 200719 yr Win a few Super Bowls... I know many will say, "well, what does that have to do with anything?" It really is a valid point for purposes of this discussion. It gets back to my original post that Weis had more leverage coming into ND. 3 Super Bowl Rings vs. 1 Pac 10 Title (in a weak Pac 10).
