What has Weis done that Willingham didn't?

Featured Replies

This year at first blush is slightly better than last year.

We ND fans can no longer use the schedule as a reason for them not being successful.

I just think it's going to take Weis getting the players that play his style into the system. His pedigree with QB's leads me to feel like he will get the athletes and we all know it's a lot easier to be a great coach when you have great players. To me that's where ND has been hurting the last 10 or so years. They haven't been getting the very top talent like they used too.

If you are a top H.S. QB then why wouldn't you want to play with Weis. Now if you are a top WR why wouldn't you want to play at ND with the top QB coming out of high school. Then all the sudden you have top RB's because there will be people spread out. All those tools make it real nice for the big guys up front to look good etc. I think it will happen.

They beat Ga Tech, who wound up going to the ACC Championship game and later losing to WVU by 3 in the Gator Bowl. Next, they beat then #17 PSU, way overrated granted, but still #17. Third, they were smoked by Michigan, who had a good year last year, making the BCS and all. Fourth they came behind to beat MSU, a solid opponent and on the road. Fifth, they beat a bad Purdue team, however this schedule is looking harder than the one that Wisconsin played last year. Sixth, ND beats a horrible Stanford team by 11. Point to you. Seventh, ND beats UCLA in the closing moments. UCLA beat USC last year. Eighth, ND beats Navy, who went to a bowl game and gave Boston College all that they could handle. Ninth, Ok, Air Force is Air Force. Tenth, Army is Army. Eleventh, Dwayne Jarret makes Booty look great and the Trojans thump ND. Twelfth, Russell makes himself the #1 pick.

I believe this to be objective. ND didn't play Duke, so I was wrong. However, this schedule stacks up to any Big 10 team and almost any other team in the country. Point being, the schedule did not exactly suck.

So they beat a team that won a VERY WEAK BCS conference in the first game of the year. Fortunately, GT had NO QB to get the ball to Charles Johnson.

Penn State - bad

Michigan - solid but overrated and exposed in the BCS

Mich St - coach got fired - that answers that question

Purdue - struggled

UCLA was 7-6

Navy - if you have to put Navy in your argument, I'm right.

No argument with the above. The thread deals with the fairness issue.

Your point was that the schedule was terrible last year. I just went game by game. You can't help how the season plays out. All you can do is set your schedule and see how the year plays out when you are not in a conference. I'd like to compare this to Oklahoma's or even Louisville's schedule from last year.

Weis has done basically the same things Willingham did at Notre Dame but Willingham lasted for what? 3 years? Weis just recieved an extension correct???

Willingham took the Irish to 2 bowl games in 3 years (although he lost both).

Weis has taken the Irish to 2 bowl games his first 2 seasons (although he lost both) & has started this season off on the wrong foot.

No matter what Weis is a better coach than Tyrone Willingham.

You are correct that you set your schedule ahead of time so you don't know what a team will have.

That however does not change the fact that the schedule AS PLAYED was not very strong.

What has Weis done that Willingham didn't?

Have a team that has negative rushing yardage after two games?

I agreed, it fizzled. You will not get an argument there. However, their schedule was very comparable to some of the top teams in the BCS chase.

This, AMAZINGLY, is true. I do not know how this is possible.

Did Willingham's teams ever lose their first 2 games of the season?

Did Willinghams team ever make ANY BCS bowl...So people really need to try to stop finding any little thing to make a point here. Because with how Ty's offense is played atleast when he was a Notre Dame they might even be worst on offense than they are now. Because if Ty was here he still would be replacing a whole offense and defense from the year before and probably struggling very much...As I have said many times people, you got to realize that his is a brand new team on both sides of the ball with pretty much everyone being young an inexperienced. To think they would have done good is crazy. If this team dont make any improvement as the year goes on then you all got something. However they already shown some improvement tonight, and IMO we will see them improve every single week...
