After a night to sleep on it, the thing that sticks out in my head is that the HHS kicker was AWESOME.

 

 

I looked back at my posts from right after the game and that was my first impression of the game. There were great efforts by players from both sides. The difference in the kicking game seemed to be a deciding factor.

Awesome job! The Birds brought their D1 Game!!

Great plays, O-line performance was a true force! Defense was a BEAST, too many playmakers on both sides of the ball to name them all but that's why we call it TEAM.

Great win by the Birds. Very much the team effort with lots of game balls to pass around. Certainly agree with many of the posts above. Kicking game was huge and probably was the difference in a close game particularly by comparison to a weak kicking game by Trotwood. Offensive line did a great job opening up holes for the running game--with the backs and quarterback doing a good job of finding the holes and running hard. Defense as a group did a great job--giving up only 6 points in the second half and the goal line stand againt the talent Trotwood put on the field. Perhaps the quality of the depth of the team was one of the most impressive things for a school the size of Highlands playing in the heat against a school considerably larger. D line was able to rotate 3 guys in and out to keep them fresh. Also, nice to see Peko begin to see some game action on the D line. Two quality quarterbacks with differing styles and strengths and making big plays--and allowed Cecil to play more defense further adding to great defensive team speed -essential when playing a team with the team speed of Trotwood that frequently went with a 5 receiver empty backfield set. Coaches did a good job having them prepared and sticking with a game plan. Again, all in all a great team effort. Congratulations Birds.

I don't have the Guru's expertise, and I too would like to hear his take on it. But, having seen both teams myself, I'd say a possible match-up between these two would be an epic battle. I'm leaning (with as much objectivity as I can muster) toward the Birds. BG has a mean power game; but I think HHS has the edge in quantity and diversity of weapons.

I thought the coaches did a good job of rotating guys in and out on both offense and defense. The D-lineman did a good job and nobody mentioned him yet but Crawford came in and had a couple really nice runs in spot situations. He is a fast little bugger. I forgot to mention how impressed I was with #19 who I kept thinking was Ben Guidugli for some reason, all night long. Roller is only a Sophomore and has unlimited potential.

 

Overall I thought everybody that played for the Birds did their job well and that includes the offensive lineman who hung tight and executed well.

 

Guidugli mentioned in the paper that he has played with Conner a long time, curious if that means they played together in pee wee or just the past couple years?

I can't tell you how happy I am for the Birds. This is a huge win and will hopefully help carry a lot of momentum for them through the rest of the season. I'm only sorry I didn't make the game. Kudos to the HHS coaching staff, it sounds like Dale and company did an outstanding job.

Silver Streaker, LN and PASSER, your posts were excellent, makes me miss being part of the HHS family.

TM starting on the 20 everytime, and on the flip side it seemed that HHS was starting on the 40 or 50 most everytime. Thats a whole lot shorter field. TM had to drive the length of the field 2 times and scored on both.

 

Personally I thought that Both Offenses moved the ball very easily. HHS missed some opportunities with fumbles. TM also left 14 points on the board as well. Goal Line and right before half fumble inside the 20. Neither Defense had an answer for the others Offense. TM was a little star struck early on in the game due to being in the herbie and at UC it seemed.

I think you are correct about the star struck observation. Highlands has been playing in these things for some time now. I figured that would be an advantage for the Ky boys. BTW was totally impressed by 2, 12, 21, and 52. TMs special teams may hinder them in their quest for a title.

D1 players should not be getting star struck.

If a kid has never played in that type of venue with that type of hype it can happen. After all they are just kids.

By that logic a freshman should be able to walk into Ohio State and not be intimidated. these are still kids, D-1 or not. And besides they are not all D-1 kids. Plenty of non D-1 guys out there. #33 the Sophmore DE was playing due to the Starting DE #44 (6'6" 240) who was out with an injury from last weeks game.

 

So your telling me that the Sophmore getting his first Start on Varsity, at UC, in the Herbstreit Challenge.... your right, no reason to get nervous...... Lots of those types of players out there. TM rotates OL, WR, DB, DL, etc. Just like Ohio State does, to get their feet wet, Injuries just pushed some farther along forward.

Don't let him fire you up. SEABASS seems to lack respect for everyone unless you are from HHS. I am sure that this game was great experience for ALL of the players from both teams. Games like these prepare players and teams for any challange that they may face.:thumb:

I agree with Ram Attack. One advantage Highlands had coming into the game was a lot of players who have had the privilege to play in that type of venue and game the past few years (as well as coaches experienced in dealing with these situations and preparing their team for it). I give Highlands credit for taking good advantage of that experience to jump out to the quick early two touchdown lead before the Rams got settled down.

 

I also appreciate Ram Attack coming back to the site to make classy posts after the game to give some of the Trotwood perspective on the game. That should be one of the good aspects of a site like this. Thanks RA and good luck to your Rams the rest of the way this season.
