Also, how can anyone now use the excuse that this is NOT about public vs. private?

 

Over the course of the time from the initial proposal to it's review by the LRC, a number of posters have adamantly stood behind Prop 2 on the premise that this is a good proposal, not aimed at public vs. private, but at stopping recruiting of middle schoolers by ALL high schools.

 

To me, the comments by Mr. Sears clearly define Proposal 2 as a public/private issue.

 

In addition, I will point out that the Private schools DID propose a compromise that was NOT accepted by the Public schools' representative. They proposed that public middle schoolers choosing private high schools would have to sit out thier freshman year. BUT, they wanted that restriction removed for private grade/middle schoolers choosing public schools.

 

Further, the Private schools proposed that the budget of the KHSAA be increased to fund more investigators to handle the allegations that stem from alleged violations of the current KHSAA rules.

 

IMO, the private schools have compromised to the degree that they can, and that public school representatives have not compromised as much as they could.

 

Because of the two factors I mention above, and Mr. Sears comments, I firmly believe that there is absolutely no way to avoid the fact that this is a witch hunt against private schools.

Not just RM but several private school supporters continue to bring up this compromise and that is humorous.

 

This compromise would have been automatically challenged in a court system somewhere and immediately defeated as being unfair. The "supposed" compromise was nothing but a sure defeat in the court system.

 

Or does the private supporters feel that 100% of the parents who kids in private schools that transferred to public schools (and there are several) would not challenge this "compromise" in a court of law?

You may have 1 or 2 schools but , in general, this will not happen in NKY.

I think you have more than 1 or 2 schools in NKY that are not as "private" friendly as the privates like to think.

 

The coaches feel one way but their schools voted differently on Prop 20. There are numerous NKY coaches in different sports that would love to see privates gone to another division and allowing their public school teams to compete against teams like themselves.

I will second that. The minute a NKY public school would choose to boycott a NKY private school there would be numerous other NKY public schools willing to take their place on the any schedule.

 

That's why boycotts are so silly.

Let me state straight out that I think a boycott is the worst possible way of handling this and I am on record as opposing any kind of split. However, a number of administrators are being "coerced" (that's the only term I can think of that fits) into backing this idea and, more than we of the sensible approach school of thought would like to believe, will be supporting this goofiness. LBBC is correct in stating that a majority of NKy coaches do not support this idea but school administrators are starting to lean the other way. In truth, however, it is less a show of agreement than a show of fear of being on the outside looking in at a boycott IMHO. This is sad, truly, truly sad.

Kind of makes you wonder if the administrators have faith in the coaches that they ultimately hired...

No I don't have any info to that effect. Only knowledge that there has been communication concerning the idea, that something that occurred at the last state meeting really PO'd some admins who were previously on the fence and that momentum is building.

I have said all along I am not in favor of a split or prop 2, BUT I have also said that the majority is in favor of both. I also will tell you that the Northern Kentucky public school systems are not as private friendly as you think. Here is the bottom line, like Bulldog just said, wait and see how it goes down. Then we will know where everyone stands.
