August 17, 200719 yr New question occurs to me: What are the reprecussions for a school who chooses not to participate in a boycott? My guess is you participate on one side or the other . . . hence the word "coerced" in my earlier post.
August 17, 200719 yr So high school sports is going to turn in to the Democrats (Public), Republicans (Private) and Independents (Independent, naturally)?
August 17, 200719 yr My guess is you participate on one side or the other . . . hence the word "coerced" in my earlier post. True, but what are they going to do to you if you don't? The word "coerced", by the way, reminds me of mobsters breaking kneecaps.
August 17, 200719 yr So high school sports is going to turn in to the Democrats (Public), Republicans (Private) and Independents (Independent, naturally)? Well, that and all you commies up on the hill . . .:thumb: :jump:
August 17, 200719 yr So high school sports is going to turn in to the Democrats (Public), Republicans (Private) and Independents (Independent, naturally)? Great! :irked: Yet another place for me not to fit in. :irked:. I'd be an Independent Private. :creepy:
August 17, 200719 yr True, but what are they going to do to you if you don't? The word "coerced", by the way, reminds me of mobsters breaking kneecaps. Oh, they will propose a deal you can't refuse alright. Be a part of their "solution" (is it me does this sound very Hitler-ish?) or you'll be a part of the "problem."
August 17, 200719 yr Oh, they will propose a deal you can't refuse alright. Be a part of their "solution" (is it me does this sound very Hitler-ish?) or you'll be a part of the "problem." Facism at it's finest!
August 17, 200719 yr Kind of makes you wonder if the administrators have faith in the coaches that they ultimately hired... They will not tell this coach who to schedule, just like they do not tell me who makes the team, or what formation to play, or who gets playing time, or they will cease to have me as a coach! I do not think they would take to kindly to me telling them how to do their job, they should let us do ours.
August 17, 200719 yr Also look for another seperation vote. Why would anyone think that the results of this one would be any different then the last time? The BOE stopped that one, it never got to the legislature.
August 17, 200719 yr Don't be so sure about that. There are some frustrated public districts who watch as kids are taken away. I think the sentiment in No. Ky. would surprise alot of people. By whom? With numerous Independent school district and open enrollment in NKY how could any administrator support a boycott? Public schools have numerous students from outside their districts and it is totally within those student's rights to attend whatever school they want. And it is not just the Highlands and Beechwoods that have strong alums willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary to send kids to those schools no matter where they live. We on here were very familiar with the Dayton star QB of the last two years who lived near Gametime in the city of Newport but still chose to attend Dayton High. And he had every right to do so. The Dayton QB this year just had an article published about him detailing that he moved to Fort Mitchell (Beechwood) his Freshman year but chose to stay at Dayton and passes the Beechwood school building every day on the way to school at Dayton miles away. Again totally within his right to do so. So how could any NKY admin. support any kind of boycott when: A) Students do not "belong" to anyone and cannot be "taken away"? B) Many Students attend public schools that are not in the public school district they reside in?
August 17, 200719 yr I have said all along I am not in favor of a split or prop 2, BUT I have also said that the majority is in favor of both. I also will tell you that the Northern Kentucky public school systems are not as private friendly as you think. Here is the bottom line, like Bulldog just said, wait and see how it goes down. Then we will know where everyone stands. And I have said before just because a majority favors something doesn't mean that it must happen. A majority of Americans favor stronger border enforcement but it's not happening. (and before I get blasted for equating high school sports with border enforcement it is meant purely as an illustration of majority not always ruling)
August 17, 200719 yr An Independent district is a public school district not part of a county system. That is the only distinction. I am not sure why we keep saying Independents can do certain things. IF a student chooses to attend a public school outside the district they must pay tuition. If not then the receiving school is no better than anybody else for not enforcing the rules. An independent district has limited boundaries much morese than the county districts since most county districts get a small piece of area and students who live in the independent cities. See parts of Ft. Thomas and Bellevue where those students belong to the county even though they live in the cities.

If the county housed them, birthed them, fed them, paid thier medical bills, payed their college tuition...then the students belong to the county. Until the time we become a Socialist society, I believe our kids belong to us.
