Was there any type of official practice cancellation today and yesterday?

Nothing surprises me in Boone County. According to my coach he called his AD about the Governor rumor and the AD of this Boone County school called the KHSAA and reported back that the KHSAA told him it was not the Governor that canceled practice, it was the KHSAA. The point being the AD is full of it.

Highlands was having practice this morning. I think they go from 7 to 9:00-9:30 or something. Family Tradition could probably pinpoint it a little better.

Corbin practiced yesterday and practiced today beginning at 8:00 p.m. They have early morning practice scheduled for tomorrow and Friday. They apparently didn't get the memo if there was one.

Fayette Co. schools cancelled all outdoor activities today and may do the same tomorrow.

It was a rumor started in Boone County. It only spread through NKY and that was it.

I believe the superintendent from Boone County was down in Frankfort at a conference and heard the rumor from the governor. He immediately called the coaches at Conner and Boone and got them off the field.

There was not, nor never has been in last many years, any statewide cancellation. It seems like the folks that cover the practices for some of those schools from a sports medicine standpoint, took a misconstrued rumor from a superintendent and then called all of the other trainers and had them cancel. No directive was ever issued this week from the Governor or the KHSAA about practices. Use the heat index system as written, prescribed and reminded by KHSAA last week via email to all of us, and that is excellent protection.

Simply put, this one was caused by a well-intentioned but overly involved trainer taking 2 and 2, adding it up, and getting 17. From what I hear, this over involvement may be extended to other sports now and causing issues. Some of the hottest places in this state right now are in gyms where the A/C isn't turned on (i.e. volleyball). Take the readings every thirty minutes as prescribed. Our folks insist on it, and it works.

Franklin County did not practice the heat INDEX was 107 and 105 at 6:00 PM Since school had started they just lifted, had walk throughs and meetings. The principal cancelled all outdoor activities. Tonight could possible be the same deal.

Erlanger Lloyd was going at it at 7:00 a.m. this morning and has been all week due to the heat. Freshmen practice in the evening at 7:00 p.m. JD

I believe Raceland has been going late, not beginning until around 7:30pm.

 

 

They can not go early because school has already started.

Mercer had to go in the gym last nite from 7:00-8:00. The heat index out on the field was between 109 and 114, depending on where you were. Inside the practice field of the Indoor facility the heat index was 111!!
