Depends who I am talking to. I usually say Luahville, but if I'm talking to an out of stater I just go ahead and say Lou-ee-ville to spare myself the look of confusion and subsequent explanation.

Yeah, I'm actually really glad for that scene in Elizabethtown. I remember first being driving nuts by "louie-ville" in the movie The Insider with Russell Crowe and Al Pacino, and Pacino was pronouncing it SO strongly, I almost think he really was making fun of it.

...in regards to your avatar... "is there an officer, problem?" ...good episode.

Sure! I was just having some fun with you. Nothing meant by it :thumb:

I went to U of L, and one of the first things I was schooled on was the "proper" pronunciation.

I've also heard natives pronounce it "Looeyvull". Listening to games from WHAS, the announcer also says "Looeyvull".

Except when the rest of the state wants the tax dollars we generate.

We feel the same way in N. Ky. too.

Anyone who is not Kentucky will say Lewisville.

I've never heard anybody say it that way...Outside of Kentucky the majority probably say Looeyville, but I've heard many say it the correct way, Looavull.

To take a line from Robin Williams:

Canada (Southern Indiana in this instance) is like a loft apartment above a great party. ;)

Looeyville for me.

"Vul" is not how you say "ville"!!!!

I really had to think about it, then say it to myself a few times, casually of course before I was certain. At first I thought I said Looaville, then I realized theres really no a in my annunciation of it, and that it's definitely of the "vul" form.

98, you beat me to posting the pic!

If you live here, you know how to say it. If you don't, we know who you are. :D
