July 24, 200719 yr I grew up watching the show, and of course it has to be on the all time list of greatest tv shows ever.
July 24, 200719 yr Some of the Barney and Otis scenes were very funny. Here's a couple: BARNEY: Andy, I've got this one dead to rights! Otis was drunk. I even gave him a test. I drew a line on the sidewalk and told him to walk it. You know what he said? ANDY: What? BARNEY: He asked me what line. I've got this one right, Andy. Otis was drunk. ANDY: That's right. Otis did you ask Deputy Fife what line? OTIS: Yeah, but I didn't have my specs on, and drunk or sober, I can't see much without my specs. ANDY: Otis, three hours ago were you drunk? OTIS: I don't know, I wasn't wearing my glasses. ANDY: Barney, you can't give Otis a sobriety test now, he's had all night to sleep it off. The time to give him a sobriety test was last night when you picked him up. BARNEY: I couldn't give him the test last night! ANDY: Why? BARNEY: He was too drunk!
July 24, 200719 yr Floyd Lawson was the second best on the show imo. I wish he had played in more episodes. He always cracked me up. Here's an exchange with Andy: FLOYD: You know everyone complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it. Calvin Coolidge siad that. ANDY: No, Floyd, that wasn't Calvin Coolidge that said that, it was Mark Twain. FLOYD: Then what did Calvin Coolidge say?
July 24, 200719 yr I love to this day watchin the show to this day. Have sometimes borrowered some of Andy's more clever lines and claimed them for myself
July 24, 200719 yr Homemade pickles episode was my favorite I had forgot bout that one when I was listing some of mine. That one was great! :thumb:  I still like "Aunt Bee, just call the man".
July 24, 200719 yr The show was well written and the actors were were suited to their charactors. The plots were valid to small time America during their production. But I wonder if what keeps it so popular today is that we long for those simpler times when honesty, kindness and caring for others was a way of life. Who wouldn't love to spend an afternoon sitting on that bench in front of the courthouse discussing the weather with Floyd and greeting the passersby. :thumb: :thumb: There was a song out at one time and I have forgotten the name of the artist that put it out, but the song title/catch phrase was "I wish life was like the Andy Griffith Show".
July 24, 200719 yr :thumb: :thumb: There was a song out at one time and I have forgotten the name of the artist that put it out, but the song title/catch phrase was "I wish life was like the Andy Griffith Show". That could be The Bellamy Brothers from their 2002 album "Redneck Girls Forever".
July 24, 200719 yr This is my favorite: The Andy Griffith Show Episode 142: Three Wishes for Opie Originally Aired on Dec 21, 1964. Barney gets Andy in trouble with Helen when he summons the two-hundred-year-old spirit of Count Iz Van Tileckie from a kit he bought at an auction and then spreads the rumor that the two are about to be married.
July 25, 200719 yr That could be The Bellamy Brothers from their 2002 album "Redneck Girls Forever". I don't think so but I honestly do not remember, seems to me it was a single artist and not a group or duo. I am not sure though, you could be right.
July 25, 200719 yr The best television show of all time, I too am partial to black and white, and can't get enough of any episode with Earnest T. Bass. Earnest T Bass: "I"m gonna throw a rock thru ur windoer.":D
July 25, 200719 yr One episode that I remember is when the townspeople wanted Andy to thru a stranger out of town and Andy says."Well if I was to thru ant suspious person out, I might have to reach around and grab the seat of my own britches."
July 25, 200719 yr Has anyone ever seen the gentleman who impersonates Barney Fiffe. I can not remember his real name, but he has made it a full time career. I saw him at Summer Motion in Ashland. It was like looking at Don Knots. His facial expressions and body language were dead on. He told stories about Mayberry, Here is my favorite: "I was called over to the store for someone shoplifting. When I got there I was directed to the women who was said to be the culprit. I ran her in for shoplifting, when we got to the jail I called Ange. Ange came right over. I reached and turned the name plate on Ange's desk around, from where it said Sheriff, to Justice of the peace. Ange asked the woman what happened, and she said, 'I was shoppin when I was hit by hunger, so I reached and got a jar of peaches and ate um everyone', Ange was made so he asked her how many peaches were in that jar and she said, 'there were six peaches in that jar', Ange was mad so he said you are going to serve one day for everyone of those peaches. The husband of the women, who came over to the jail with the woman said 'judge can I say something?', Ange said sure what do you have to add? The husband said, 'she ate a can of pees to'."
