Salve.

Pickles.

Opie and the Bird.

Escaped lady convicts.

And the list goes on...

Funny show, probably in my top 25 all-time.

The show was well written and the actors were were suited to their charactors. The plots were valid to small time America during their production. But I wonder if what keeps it so popular today is that we long for those simpler times when honesty, kindness and caring for others was a way of life. Who wouldn't love to spend an afternoon sitting on that bench in front of the courthouse discussing the weather with Floyd and greeting the passersby.

Here's an interesting sidebar to this thread. Many years ago I was into collecting sports autographs. Not as heavy as some, but reasonably active.

More than one person told me that the celebrity who was the absolute toughest, most rude person to approach for an autograph was none other than good ole' Andy Griffith.

Doesn't make me like the show any less, though!

I agree that the feelings of nostalgia that AGS illicits is one of the things that has always made it endearing. Folks just love country charm.

What I've never figured out, however, is the appeal of "Mama's Family." It may be country, but it is in no way, shape or form charming.

I'll tell you about the Emancipation Proclomation. First you had a bunch of people who wanted to get emancipated. Well they got together and decided they needed a way to announce their emancipation. So they put together a proclamation of the emancipation and it was called the Emancipation Proclomation!

The episode where Barney tries to remember the Preamble is great.
