The Andy Griffith Show

Recommended Posts

Ok come on now, how is this not the best tv series of all-time? The characters and atmosphere are great. Just watched the episode of where the goat eats the TNT and Barney swears that the Goat is going to go " BLOOOEY!!!" Who else enjoys this show as much as me??:D

I've read several books on the show, and had one that told about every show, I've seen them all. I have DVDs, and use quotes by Barney, Andy (just call the man Aunt bee, call the Man), Goober (I take off on Goober), Gomer's Grandama. Hate the fact that Thelma Lou didn't marry Barn.

As the show ages and Barney leaves I still watched it. Andy grew more impatient with everyone and the show got more serious.

I never get tired of watching Andy Griffith even though I've seen them all so many times. It's definitely my all time favorite, although I don't like the colored versions either, especially with Warren (huh, huh).

Opie killing the mother bird and then becoming the new mother, and Mr. McBeevey were two of my favorites.

I like MASH also, it may be my second favorite. Really like I Love Lucy too!

The "Andy Griffith Show" was By Far The Best t.v. show that was EVER on t.v.. Nothing else can compare to it. "I Love Lucy", "All In the Family" and "The Honeymooners", "M.A.S.H." ."Cheers", "Seinfield "and "Everybody Loves Raymond" were all very good but Andy Griffith was the best ever (and stil is). I am like others in that I did not like the color versions of the show or "Mayberry RFD" as well.

One of these times when we are in the general area again I am going to stop off in Mt. Airy, N.C. - the town Mayberry was named after, right down the road from Mt. Airy is Pilot Mtn. (Mt. Pilot's namesake).

The worst people on the show were "Otis" - (and he put himself in jail :D)and Earnest T. Bass and all he wanted was a Uni-Form and like to throw rocks through windows :p . There was always a good moral lesson to be learned in about every episode.

Barney woulds alway "Nip it, Nip it, Nip it in the Bud" with his one bullet.

Great show and still is, I still can laugh at every episode.

(We don't have an icon/smiley for it but I am whistling the theme song right now :thumb: )

Some of my favorite episodes and I a sure that I am forgetting some bc I loved all of them.

"Just Call The Man"

"Citizens Arrest" w/ Gomer Pyle

"Judy, Judy, Judy" w/ Goober

" TNT eating Donkey" and Barney signing to it.

" The very first one when Aunt Bee came on the program" - Opie said "Pa, she can't fish she can't play ball - justy how is dhe gonna make it??"

Thanks for this thread and the memories!! :thumb: :thumb:

I read somewhere that the episodes that Warren Ferguson were in, were written before Barney left the show and that Barney would have filled the storyline. After seeing them, I don't think Barney, Don Rickles, or Bernie Mac could have made those episodes funny. I have a hard time believing that. Of course, Warren's character went the way of Chuck Cunningham and was never seen or heard from again after 11 episodes. Warren later went on the fame as the voice of one the Crash Dummies and was involved in an on-air fight with Andy Kaufmann.

Because of the overwhelming negativity toward the color episodes compared to the black and whites, there were several TV stations around the country that aired the color episodes (in syndication) in black and white to keep ratings consistent. I remember WGN doing this a few years ago.

Like evryone else, I believe the black & white's to be the best episodes ever put on tv. I used to live in an area where the cable would go out if the wind changed direction. The dvd's were the first thing my kids would grab when they couldn't watch their favorite shows. Thankfully, even now, if they are channel surfing and come upon the AGS, they stop and watch it. Bets moral and life lessons in the world.
