July 16, 200719 yr Author They lost the first game 3-2 and while they didn't have many chances on offense, they were still in the game to the end. They win Friday, Saturday's game was very close, even with Belisle walking the tightrope and the Reds not doing much on offense, they were still right there in the game. They didn't have much of a chance today as I said before. So the offense did it's usual hot/cold routine, but the pitching looked good this series. As has been said before, it just seems like they can never get all facets going for an extended period of time. Maybe I'm not reading your message correctly. 1-3 is not good. Ever! I really don't care how close they hang in these games. The fact is that they are losing them. Lets not forget who we're talking about here. The Reds right? One of the worst teams in baseball, who have made no player moves, hired a scout for the interim mgr. and as long as the current GM is in place, will continue to be horrid. Lets not let a few "close games" get in the way of reality here.
July 16, 200719 yr It's amazing when you look at the Reds all time franchise home run leaders and while Dunn deserves credit for having a great "offensive" career to this point. His RBI totals are OBSCENELY low compared to the other guys on the list. He never seems to get the 2 and 3 run homer, it's always a solo home run. Would be nice to get that double that drives in 2 or 3 runs. Get that base hit that drives in 2. Really can't be surprised by it, he has been a one dimensional player his whole career and that's not going to change. RBIs are not an accurate measure as to one's ability to help a team win games. Too many variables outside of the control of the individual batter. He's hardly one-dimensional. If you subscribe to the theory that "runs created" are the most important measure of one's contribution to wins, then you cannot call Dunn one-dimensional. Most experts will tell you that the best way to measure a batter's offensive contribution to victories is to look at the combination of SLG% , OB%, ability to get on base via walks, and Isolated Slugging (SLG% minus OB%) . These factors generally provide a true picture of one's ability to produce runs (the name of the game). Dunn is currently 28th in the category of runs created according to http://www.thehardballtimes.com . For comparison, Griffey's outstanding season places him 21st. Where Dunn struggles is RISP . If he improves that area, he'll be a monster.

I agree that losses are losses and all the fans on the board are sick of this team just struggling or not able to get that big hit or the big wins on a consistent basis. We are in agreement, I was just saying they didn't really play that badly, they just obviously didn't play good enough.

Even though the stats you have show he ISN'T just a home run guy, that he does more. It seems like every time I watch him, he is all or nothing at the plate.

In 12 innings he has gave up 17 hits, 5 runs, but 4 ER, his career ERA is 18.00. Also just one strikeout in those 12 innings. In his last start, going 6.2 innings with 7 hits, 1 run but no earned, with no K's, is pretty good. Hopefully the Reds bats will wake up and help him out some
