The Bermuda of Holmes High School holds up very well to the wear and tear of 2 varsity teams. Admittingly Holy Cross has taken the burden of Middle school football off of the field but nonetheless 2 varsity 1 jv and 1 freshman still play there. As for compensation any rent payed along with concession money that I believe CC is keeping will more than pay for the wear and tear of 5 extra games.

That might be good for Holmes but at this field we also have our middle school games, youth programs and also the Red Devils have had one or two series of games a year there as well. Then we have the band festival which is an all weekend event. The varsity football program has walkthroughs there every Thurs night as well. So as you can see the scheduling would be an issue as well as the wear and tear on the field. That wear and tear would result in a field with no grass which could potential be a safety issue for the players due to injuries on the hard surface. And I do not think that the rent and so called concessions money can compensate for player injuries.

 

As far as concessions money....what makes you think that is going to CC? From what I know, Brossart has only put in a request to use the facility and there has been no decision made by the Central Office. So I really do not think that that has been discussed.

I hope that IF this rumor is true then the forementioned programs i.e. athletic boosters at both schools, band boosters and the CC junior programs and the Red Devils program need to get together, become proactive and develop a game plan to fund such an investment. BUT I seriously worry that until this is done the field will not withstand the abuse of two varsity programs, a JV program, a middle school program, youth programs and a band contest. Just scheduling this field regardless of turf with all of these programs and then adding Brossart's home games will be an issue. The varsity football program at CCHS should not be compromised by adding another local varsity program to this field's schedule.

 

I forgot about our freshman program, in fact last year due to concerns of wear and tear on the field Campbell County High School freshman football team was kept off this field and made to play their home games on the practice field with no scoreboards, clocks or stands for spectators. So why would CCS administration consider allowing another school to lease out the field? I would think that the teams at CCHS should be given first consideration and will be given first consideration.

It it true BG Green what UK fan 59 says that Brossart's feeder school St. Mary's won't let them practice football on their soccer fields? What's up with that? Does the hierarchy of the diocese have any say in that matter? Looks like the High School should be able to use the Elementary school fields for goodness sakes.

Looking into the tax issue, Brossart does not pay taxes. Their parents might, but they make the choice to send them to a private school. I am sure what they are going to pay, if it happens will not even be a fraction of the cost for turf.

If you all are upset over BB playing at CC, be upset at CC, not BB. CC are the ones who allowed BB to use the playing field.

I thought Campbell County installed a new system at Bob Miller Stadium a couple of years ago. Had to do something with mixing in shredded tire rubber in with the natural grass. I remember that rubber had something to do with the base. Did that work?

Yes they injected several thousand pounds into the ground two years ago,then last year put in bermuda grass. It was a lot nicer last year than years past and this year with the bermuda setting up even better it should be excellent. Drove by today and it looks good.

I heard that the Stangs will be using Bob Miller Stadium for thier home games. Can this field withstand two Varsity Teams using it? If one would look at the use of fields by two Varsity Programs in the past, one would see that the field can not withstand the use.

 

I could only hope for the Camels, that this is a rumor.

 

This is just a rumor and no decision has been made to allow BB to play at Bob Miller Stadium. BB has submitted a use of facilities request to the Superintendent's office.

 

Bottom Line: This field is entirely over-used already. Any additional wear & tear simply puts kids at risk as this playing surface quickly becomes a "parking lot" when the grass erodes.

 

We are just now into Year #2 of the bermuda and it appears to be coming in nicely. As to the "crumb rubber" effectiveness, I beleive that it has provided some residual value but probably did not perform as advertised. The crumb rubber remains on the field and mixed with bermuda seems to co-exist OK providing a minor level of cushion for players.

CC's field was usually pretty rough by mid October with one team playing on it. Two teams could be pretty rough. But then again if the lack of rain continues it really won't matter much either way.

Wouldn't somebody have to pay taxes on their property that goes to the Campbell County school system?
