If only it were that easy. Got to remember Brossart just started football and that kind of developed quickly.

 

NCC has had football for years and has no field. Holy Cross has had football for 10 years and is still working on getting a field and at least has a practice field. Some of those schools use city/county facilities for baseball and softball as do some public high schools.

 

You mentioned Moelller which has about 5 times the number of boys the small KY schools have. They still have no home field (using Nippert this year) after using several other fields in the past years and they are one of the premier Ohio teams and at one time probably the premier team in the nation. They did build a gym but were limited to the size by zoning and other regulations.

 

Another problem was that the Dio. of Covington had a "hold" on any projects until the abuse lawsuits were settled. Now things can move forward but a couple of years were lost in the process. And expanding the gym was on the Brossart list well before there even was a football team.

 

Good points--AWNP!! Trying to compare Moeller, Elder and the like to a Brossart is absolutely laughable, given the disparages in resources?? St. Henry or NCC would fair comparisons, except St. Henry got their new school in right before the "hold" you refer to, and of course is yet to go the football route.

 

I doubt many schools, small or large, start football programs by building a "complex"; and most use existing facilities until their programs mature and prosper. I know Moeller is somewhat landlocked, but I would have thought they had their own field by now--At least Brossart has one of those??

It should work like Gallatin County did last year. Gallatin was not eligible for post-season play in the first year. They had a year of JV before Varsity just like BB. Brossart should have the 1 year delay for the post-season.

 

Don't believe that's the case buttels? Brossart, while only having one year of essentially JV play under their belt, as I understand was faced with the choice of moving to district play this year or reapplying in a few years. They chose to move to Varsity District play this year, and thus would be eligible to participate in the playoffs if they qualify. Very doubtful this will happen with established Class A programs including the 1000 lb. gorilla (Beechwood) in their district; but I feel certain were they able to pull this off, there's no "delay"??

Actually very much a football fan thanks, and I was at one of the BC victories last year. Please READ the "s" on Boone County School(S) and maybe you'll get my drift--Or maybe I better spell it out for you as in Ryle and Conner along with Boone and Dixie; who you'll have to beat to move on in the new playoff alignment!! It's been great to see the resurgence of Camel football, as I always felt that the biggest question mark in NKY football, was why they didn't win more??

Mr. BGGreen, why doesn't Brossart form an alliance and use St. Mary's Soccer field or if what you say is true about Pendry Park, although I think you have it wrong, why not set up a football field where you already play your soccer home games? Direct question sir, please reply why this is not a good option for Brossart?

The little bit of profit made vs. the damage done by even one extra varsity game is not a wise investment by the CC administration. I understand that renting the field is somewhere in the quoted range of $1,500.00.

 

Comparing that to an average CC profit of $25,000 (5,000 tickets x $5.00) on a Friday night, the $1,500.00 payment is not worth the hassle or wear & tear on the surface.

 

Once again, though, this decision by the Superintendent's office cannot be based on economics. It must be made based on player safety. The field cannot sustain more usage. It's already @ 200% capacity with a rigourous Jr. League, Red Devil :devil: , CC Band, and CC Freshman, JV, & Varsity game schedule for 2007.

 

What does Beechwood, Dixie, etc charge for field usage on their synthetic surfaces?

I really think that if Campbell County were smart, they would embrace Brossart's need for a home field and join forces between the two schools and the community in general to fund the installation of artificial turf at Bob Miller Stadium. That way the band, Red Devils, underclass programs, Brossart, and the Camels would all benefit. Campbell County could charge rent as does Newport Stadium to NCC, and they would get 100% of the concessions from all tenants.

 

Using the newly installed Bermuda Grass/injected rubber as an excuse seems shortsighted. Let's face it, five or ten years from now Bob Miller Stadium is going to have turf. Why not sooner than later???

 

I won't address the St. Joe/St. Mary comments. Brossart has a fine working relationship with both schools (as well as Campbell County) and BB has sunk countless thousands of dollars in improviing and maintaining the St. Mary Baseball field.

 

Only recently has NCC developed their own baseball facility. Like us they rent a football facility, play their soccer games at Pendery, and have their own gym. Holy Cross is in the same boat.

 

I do know that we were seriously looking at some property in the county with the thoughts of developing a sports complex there. Don't know how that came out.

 

I guess that if I were on the side of the issue that has all of their facilities provided by tax dollars, it might be easier for me to look at the private school next door and tell them that in addition to paying tuitions (by choice) to send their kids there, they also need to ante up and build a place for all of their athletic teams to perform as well.

I understand that CC and New Cath tap into the Red Devils and I think there is another league that has just started in the "county." Where will the future BB footballers come from? Red Devils, the new league or will BB eventually form their own youth system?

Truth is I've got no clue if the BBHS powers-to-be are discussing any of the options you mention?? I'm not involved any more than I suspect you are in these decisions. Common sense would say the main reason these options might not work would be simply that neither is a FOOTBALL facility!! I would think the logical stumbling blocks might be as follow:

 

Pendry Park--No lights, no stands, no goalposts, no concessions/restrooms near the soccer fields, etc.

 

St. Marys--No lights, no goalposts, no stands, no concessions/restrooms, etc. I'm also not sure if there's room as I believe these are youth fields and somewhat smaller than the 120 yards necessary for football?

 

That said most of these could be overcome, although the goalposts at Pendry would likely be an issue. I suspect these "options" have been explored, but honestly don't know. I'm not involved in any way other than support with the Brossart football program, so am not privy to these discussions. I would suspect that before anyone would sink the money necessary to build concessions, restrooms, stands, and goalposts at St. Mary's, other more permanent options would be explored?? If the county were to have an interest in providing a football option at Pendry, that would seem a more viable option.

 

I can certainly understand the concern SOME Campbell supporters have for BB using Miller stadium, and the strain this might put on an already overworked field with a history of problems. Not being a grounds keeping expert, it does seem odd to me that with the multitude of games aforementioned (Campbell Varsity, Campbell JV, Campbell Freshman, multiple age groups of youth leagues, Red Devils, Band Competitions, etc); that five (5) Brossart home games will destroy the field and endanger kid's health as many of you have stated?? 30-40 events are fine, but 35-45 will render the field unplayable and put kid's in jeopardy???? I suspect there may be other underlying reasons for a few fan's concerns????

Agree with you on the youth program comments, as the key to building a solid program. CC Red Devils is a NKYFL team whose territory is essentially southern Campbell County (south of Newport, Dayton, Bellevue, etc.) They would logically serve to "feed" the high schools of that area--NCC, Campbell, Highlands and Brossart. Highlands has their own very successful youth leagues, and Campbell has a newer and growing league as well I believe (maybe one of my CC friends can shed more light on these for you). I'm sure all programs would prefer to have their own "feeder league", but I'm not sure that's very practical in the near term for the Mustangs. A more viable option might be for St. Mary's and/or St. Joe's to field middle school leagues, but I'm not sure where or who they would play (Maybe someone else with more knowledge of the youth FB world can comment on this)

 

Regarding your other comments--There has always been a natural geographic rivalry between BBHS and CCHS, as many of the kids are neighbors, family, etc. As the Brossart teams have become more than the Camels' "homecoming game" over the years; the rivalry seems to have become more heated, especially when discussing the potential use of Bob Miller Stadium. Doubtful there'll be much of a rivalry in football, especially given the huge difference in school sizes; and don't know if they'll ever even look to schedule one another, given the limited room on the non-district schedules??

 

Personally I get a kick out of the passion involved, and when kept in perspective, think it's great for both schools. I really have been happy to see the resurgance of the Camels' football program, especially since I knew some of the kids involved, and am a big fan of high school sports in general. Not sure why some on here seem so openly hostile to the Mustang sports' programs, especially since we are in separate classes in most sports?? :confused: :confused:

Having lights is not an issue (see Cov. Cath. - plenty of wins without having lights). Goalposts and stands can be purchased with little cost (also can be removable). Setting up concessions and restrooms again can be done….can be very creative ways of accomplishing this.

 

Using the NCC/Newport agreement, as a reference, is not something you want to do. The Wildcat family has not been happy with this situation for years. Prior to the new turf at Newport Stadium, NCC had a great deal when using the field (basically supplying the straw at the end of the year), as Newport had to use their staff and resources to take care of the field before and after every event at the field. NCC had it made…of course the Breds faithful liked it! Newport was able to finally get serious compensation for NCC using the field when they put in the turf. However when NCC found out that it would actually cost them some money they went searching for a better deal….ie, they went and talked to Highlands, Beechwood, and Dixie. In the end they realized the Newport deal would be the best not because of cost (because they were going to have to pay, real money, for using a field no matter where they played) rather because of location.

 

I think the biggest thing with this situation between BBHS and CCHS is they past 10 years or so there has been bad blood created between the two programs by the fans from both schools. All of sudden now the school that consistently is ripping CCHS athletics (see BSMustangs blog pages, BGP for that matter) wants to partner up. If the shoe was on the other foot I am certain the Mustang faithful would be against this venture as the Camel faithful seem to be now.
