Brossart should have never started a progran untill they had all this figured out so we wouldnt be in this mess in the first place.

I have a way to solve all of Brossart's probelms. They seemed to be worried about the student enrollment, this does not help the Football Program when they can not get the students to come to school there. I have heard that any Freshmen on the team will be be playing Varsity.

 

What they should do is close up and merge with NCC and become one school.

If they would do this, the School would be untouchable in Sports and then they could build a new stadium.

 

When it comes down to it, the powers did not go into the thought process before they started up a program.

Brossart Freshman will be playing a JV schedule just like the freshmen at Ludlow, Bellevue, Dayton, and Walton Verona.

 

The talk of a merger between NCC and Brossart was discussed back in the early 1990' and it was stopped then. NCC is in the midst of funding raising that will include several new classes and the final goal is to but a artificial turf field on the hill. After spending that much time and effort, why would NCC want to combine with Brossart?

 

As far as enrollment goes, I would assume they are hoping to have the same success as Holy Cross as far as increased enrollment that may be attributed to football.

 

As far as having a field to play on for home games; Newport, Highlands, Beechwood, CovCath, and soon to be Thomas More all have artificial turf. Are telling me that Brossart will not be looking at these fields to play home games?

Campbell Co, in my humble opinion, sees Brossart football as a direct threat to enrollment. Will it affect CC's overall student population, maybe not, but it would affect the number of football players who enroll. If Brossart has any success, they will offer an alternative to kids who want to play football, get a private education, but can't drive into Newport to do it. I see their refusal to allow Brossart to rent their facility as less about player safety and field conditions as it is not allowing their competition to get proper footing. I honestly can't blame CC for doing it. From a business perspective, why assist someone in growing who is in direct competition with you for athletes?

Brossart ever since around 1993 or 94 has been becoming a threat to CC athletics. I can remember Dan Sullivan and Bob Seiter discussing the virtues of the schools with several top basketball players (the majority who ended up at Brossart). This gives the Mustangs "one more area" to threaten CC and I am sure they are very nervous about it. Mexitucky I think you are hitting very close as to some of the problems that CC has had for the past 15 years.

Congratualtions to the 'Stangs and to the Newport Independent Schools for reaching a solution for and with BBs football team. I wish they could have worked something out in Ft T - but Newport is just great IMO.

 

Down the line I envision BB getting thier own Stadium w/Field Turf and leasing their complex to Campbell County. Merely, a reflection of the direction the two school's athletic programs have demonstrated over the past decade... :thumb:

This is another example of how Newport Schools and Michael Brandt are first class all the way. I'm sure Coach Ollier's connections didn't hurt as well. Looks like Wade Cruse will get a couple more overtime days after all....

 

In Campbell County's defense, if you've ever seen a grass field that is shared by two teams when the playoffs roll around, it isn't pretty....Newport and NCC know what that is like all too well....

Are any of the football players former soccer players? The only downside that I ever saw to a Brossart football program was the reduction in the number of soccer players. Brossart has experienced a great deal of success in recent years in the soccer realm. Will football hurt or dilute the soccer program @ BBHS?

I doubt it will this year, because the older players are kind of established, but no doubt a few younger kids will have to make the choice down the road. I'm sure in time both programs will level out, but I could see a short term drop in the soccer talent, or lack of progress for the football team. Growth should help with this, and it should give some more kids an opportuntiy to participate in a high school sport!! I could also see a few more BBHS feeder kids "staying home" to play football, and the soccer team continuing their trend of fine play in the future.

 

Finally I'm glad to see this one put to bed, and the Mustangs' players and their fans having a "place to call home", at least for a while!! Thanks to the Highlands, Newport and Thomas More programs for their cooperation and hospitality; its great to see the spirit of neighbors at its finest, putting aside petty differences to arrive at a solution!! Best of luck to all these teams moving into the 2007 season!!
