Wouldn't somebody have to pay taxes on their property that goes to the Campbell County school system?

Maybe but that doesn't really mean a field should be made available if it is deemed that more games would be hard to schedule or deteriorate the field.

 

It I were Brossart I'd play all "away" games this year and work it out money-wise with the home team and play at Thomas More next year.

I did not address that point at all. The post was that Brossart did not pay taxes.

 

If that is accurate, I asked who pays the property taxes on Bishop Brossart High School and who pays the utilities bills that includes taxes that go to CC school district.

 

My ONLY point was to address what I thought was inaccurate information that Brossart does not pay taxes.

It it true BG Green what UK fan 59 says that Brossart's feeder school St. Mary's won't let them practice football on their soccer fields? What's up with that? Does the hierarchy of the diocese have any say in that matter? Looks like the High School should be able to use the Elementary school fields for goodness sakes.

 

Can't say I can lend any accurate answers to UK Fan 59's eloquent, obviously well-informed response?? I've no idea where the team plans to practice this year, but since all but one (the original) of the soccer fields were new and just growing in last year, I'd not use last year as a measuring stick. You'll have to get someone more informed on the politics of the parish to comment on this one, but I've always found great cooperation between St. Mary's and BBHS; and between Campbell and BB for that matter.

 

I think that truth be known this is ALL just rumor at this point, and some of the CC fans who obviously don't want to see Brossart's five games destroy their field (????) may be getting upset over nothing?? Time will tell, but if I was a Campbell fan, I'd be more worried about how to beat Dixie and the Boone County schools; than where Brossart will be playing their home games, unless of course they're just interesting in attending the games and need to plan ahead??

Campbell has never been able to get good grass growing on that field and now you want to add 5 games that has nothing to do with the school??? Im sry but if they need a field St. Marys has 2 or 3 soccor fields that would be a great place for them to play. there is no reason why they cant play on them fields, all you have to do is paint the lines and numbers. plunty of land already there.

With the rising cost of athletics being put to the parents, this could be a win win situation for CC and BB. It's been great to see the resurgence of Camel football, as I always felt that the biggest question mark in NKY football, was why they didn't win more??

 

Also for the record, the folks involved with initiating the Brossart football program spent considerable time researching options on where to play, and whether or not to build a field/stadium before starting a program. As with all BBHS endeavors, it was well thought out and throughly planned. It may not have looked so to the outside critics, but remember this was a largely volunteer effort started from scratch; without the benefit of the reams of dollars you often see thrown at similar public school projects!!

 

Doubtful the CC administration will be asking either of us about using the field, so I'm about done with this "discussion". Brossart will undoubtedly abide by whatever decision they come to, and schedule their home games accordingly.

All this talk about Brossart building their own complex is really funny. Fact is, outside of the small gym at their school they don't provide anything at all. I think my old friends at Campbell are extremely helpful and if the field is available, so be it. If it isn't, the Brossart crowd needs to accept the reasons given and not undercut or nasty comment or garbage about paying taxes, like last time. I could be mistaken but the fact is Campbell already allows them to use the track and all its equipment and the middle school gym on occassions. Brossart also uses the soccer and baseball fields at Pendry Park for both boys and girls.

 

The real discussion is Brossart needs to invest in its own physical plant. Everyone out in Alexandria has heard about the disagreements with St. Marys and St. Joes property being used by Brossart, so it is time for the Mustangs to come up with the cash. There are reasons why programs become expensive. It is time for Brossart to get serious about its programs. Their success should not be dependent on their lack of planning and investment. That is not fair to their students. If it cannot be done after the great success over the past few years the hard question is will it ever get done?

Just a FYI, they don't need to worry about Dixie anymore as Dixie is 5A and CC is 6A.

 

 

Also, any reason why CC doesn't build a new stadium at the high school? I know from experience it's a pain to get to your practice/game site, especially for underclassmen.

They've joined distrcit play and are in a district with Beechwood, Bellevue, Ludlow and Dayton. Not sure about the participation issue, but he is working very hard at that matter and was very visable during basketball and baseball this past year. I've got a feeling they will be very young again, but their is some athleticism in the younger and incoming grades!!

 

It should work like Gallatin County did last year. Gallatin was not eligible for post-season play in the first year. They had a year of JV before Varsity just like BB. Brossart should have the 1 year delay for the post-season.

I do not remember seeing a field for that either? In fact, come to think of it I guess the small gym is all the athletic facilities they have. How do other private schools like Covington Cath, St Henry, Elder, Moeller provide their students with athletic facilities? Maybe they can network and develop a game plan for such success. Now that would be fair to their students.

If only it were that easy. Got to remember Brossart just started football and that kind of developed quickly.

 

NCC has had football for years and has no field. Holy Cross has had football for 10 years and is still working on getting a field and at least has a practice field. Some of those schools use city/county facilities for baseball and softball as do some public high schools.

 

You mentioned Moelller which has about 5 times the number of boys the small KY schools have. They still have no home field (using Nippert this year) after using several other fields in the past years and they are one of the premier Ohio teams and at one time probably the premier team in the nation. They did build a gym but were limited to the size by zoning and other regulations.

 

Another problem was that the Dio. of Covington had a "hold" on any projects until the abuse lawsuits were settled. Now things can move forward but a couple of years were lost in the process. And expanding the gym was on the Brossart list well before there even was a football team.

Where do I start??

 

Stating that the team that pushed for BBHS football had thought about where they would play is a far cry from "Brossart building their own complex"?

 

What is the following about--"not undercut or nasty comment or garbage about paying taxes"?? Are you responding to others' posts or just venting some frustration??

 

Brossart does have pleasure of using CC's track and very much appreciates that fact, and has represented the facility well with multiple state championships (boys and girls) over the years!! They have also used Pendry Park as their home soccer field for the last several years, but the last I checked Pendry is a Campbell County public park (like it or not, paid for in part by Brossart parents' tax dollars) and has nothing to do with the Campbell County School System?? They have as much right to that field as anyone!!

"It is time for Brossart to get serious about its programs." Given the success of the Brossart athletic programs, especially versus their "big brother" down the road; this statement is laughable!!

 

As much as everyone in the Brossart community would like to wave a magic wand and build a new school, complete with a state of the art athletic complex (your word); reality is that takes money, and lots of it!! What you and your compatriots in the CC community fail to forget is BBHS is still a small school, one quarter the size of Campbell, with no public funding. (I forgive you if looking at the athletic contest results between the two has clouded your memory ) When they want something they actually have to PAY for it, and not summon on some reserve of public cash; and this results in the need to get very creative when spending money on athletic endeavors and facilities!! I think if you look around NKY and other areas you will find similar schools facing similar problems/challenges. Given the circumstances I'd say contend that Brossart does as good a job as most in producing athletic success using the limited budgets they've got to work with!!

 

Again, I think the cooperation between Campbell and Brossart's leadership over the years has been a study in good community relations; unfortunately some Camel fans seem to not feel the same sense of cooperation as their elected leaders--Now that's unfortunate!!!!
