Barnhart: UK-UL Game Won't be on ESPN...

Featured Replies

UK will not play a single game all year the national audience will care about. And if they keep running from national attention it will stay that way...

So whats the big deal then??

That hasn't been the case when UK plays at home, has it???

Try again...

1999 - 56-28 UofL

2001 - 36-10 UofL

2003 - 40-24 UofL

2005 - 31-24 UofL

One close game in the last 4.

And if Barnhardt and Brooks didn't want to play UL, UK wouldn't be playing UL would they?

It is my opinion that Brooks and Barnhart both pushed for the game to be moved in the hopes that Louisville wouldn't agree to it. That would have then ended the game and UK could save face by saying Louisville wouldn't agree to terms.

So whats the big deal then??

UL fans are upset because it costs them a valuable game on TV to a national audience at a prime time slot. That's a main building block they have used to climb the ladder of success.

A lot of UK fans don't think it's a big deal because, well, UK fans don't think UK football is a big deal. They don't have the vision to understand how important exposure on this level can be, and they likely never will. Case in point. Remember 2 years ago when the game was at UK and the Cats were in it to the end? It's no coincidence that one of the best recruiting classes in UK history followed the next season. The program toiled in more obscurity off the national stage the rest of that year, but a lot of the kids remembered that game on ESPN. Telling a kid from 300 miles outside of KY that his family is still going to get to watch his games is a big recruiting tool. I don't see ANY good for UK in running from what both programs had in place.

It's likely this year is a good game, and win or lose that would help UK. And the Cats are still not getting away from a Week 1 beat down in Papa Johns in 2008. It was a knee jerk reaction to the outcome last year, and it will burn UK in the long run. Fine with me. They don't seem to care either way...

Try again...

2003 was 26-24 going in to the 4th wasn't it???

You can pretty much get any game you want to see at most bars....

Are you serious?

I'll see every home game live regardless because I'll be there.

Yeah, you and the other "Seventy-thousand strong" who'll be watching in the parking lot after halftime, like always.

Then the answer is simple for you...................don't watch if that is the case. :p :thumb:

I get to go for free, but that doesn't matter. I still look at it from the standpoint of the high percentage of four million people in this state, and football fans across the country, who would rather see the game live than six hours after it occurred, and don't really have access to the tailgate party outside Commonwealth Stadium. It shortchanges the fans out and about in the state, and for dubious and selfish reasons. YOU guys are the ones who should be the most outraged.

Kentucky has just gotten so used to watching their games on tape delay it's not a big deal to them. Louisville fans are used to seeing their games on live TV.

UL fans are upset because it costs them a valuable game on TV to a national audience at a prime time slot. That's a main building block they have used to climb the ladder of success.

And there... you... go, as the Bob and Tom version of Marge Schott would say. This is all-around silly on the UK Athletic Office. If the game's on national television and they get blown out, then who cares? They get whooped and everyone around the country says "Surprise, Surprise... there's a top-10 team throttling someone." That's the way its supposed to go, and the effect will be minimal.

But if the game were on national television and the Cats make a game of it... even sneak a win as many Cats' fans are predicting, then they've secured themselves a whole heap of free publicity and recruiting help. That game story would be on College Gamenight, Sportscenter because, as we all know, there is no more shamelessly self-promoting network in all of broadcasting than ESPN.

As gametime said, Louisville has used that to a tremendous advantage in the last 10 years; it seems foolish for the Cats (who otherwise play nobodies and SEC conference games and television coverage is pretty well dictated the rest of the year) not to hop in on the fun.

YOU guys are the ones who should be the most outraged.

It's very telling that they aren't...

Kentucky has just gotten so used to watching their games on tape delay it's not a big deal to them. Louisville fans are used to seeing their games on live TV.

And that's the biggest freakin' joke about the whole thing, and it sums up UK football in a microcosm: "Always be settlin' for less"

I think that it should be a game on National tv every year. A lot has been made about Louisville moving the basketball game but that is still going to be on National TV. This stinks for those of us that don't have tickets yet want to see the game.

We aren't outraged because there is nothing to be outraged about they have always sucked and there is no other reason to think other wise. I think it's a good move really. Why would you want to get embarrassed on ESPN?

I thought UK had a chance this year???
