June 20, 200719 yr It was either agree to the deal or watch the game stopped all together (which is what I truly believe that Barnhart and Brooks wanted). How stupid does it sound to say we need the time to get ready? The entire off season isn't enough time? Three more weeks with two games against weak compitition? And this year Louisville will have a new coach, it's the perfect time to catch them in game 1, and Brooks and Barnhart took themselves out of that. How many up and coming teams start their season off vs a top 10 team? How many top 25 teams start their season off vs a top 10 team? Many people are the same in that they believe a "tune up game" benefits the team. I believe that.
June 20, 200719 yr And if Barnhardt and Brooks didn't want to play UL, UK wouldn't be playing UL would they?
June 20, 200719 yr ^I don't see why this is a big deal. If UK doesn't want the game early and is willing to trade the TV coverage, why are the UofL fans so outraged?
June 20, 200719 yr You're assuming UT is unranked at the time, I'm assuming otherwise. Of course historically a win over UT is a bigger step for the UK program and it's image in the SEC than a victory over the Cards IMO. You can say that again. 22 consecutive losses to a conference opponent, I would think that would be a big win for the program.
June 20, 200719 yr ^I don't see why this is a big deal. If UK doesn't want the game early and is willing to trade the TV coverage, why are the UofL fans so outraged?Because a lot of Louisville fans count on television as their chance to watch the game. Duh ...
June 20, 200719 yr You know better than to suggest UL is going to give up the UK game. UK forced their hand and UL had to take the game when they could get it. You do realize that if UK wins and no one sees it, it does little to help the UK program right??? You think if UK wins, no one will see it? That's all we'll hear about in Kentucky for a year... Oh, and ESPN might say a little something about it as well. It might not be on as big of a stage television wise, but if that's what Barnhardt and Brooks feel benefits the program most, who am I to question them? That's their job... They don't tell me how to park cars at the Valet.
June 20, 200719 yr ^I don't see why this is a big deal. If UK doesn't want the game early and is willing to trade the TV coverage, why are the UofL fans so outraged? Because UL has built the foundation of their program by playing on National TV and reaping the rewards of the exposure. It was a PRIME spot as there was no competition for viewers on a holiday weekend. It was a knee jerk reaction last year after UK got their teeth kicked in. It was dumb then, and it's dumb now...
June 20, 200719 yr And if Barnhardt and Brooks didn't want to play UL, UK wouldn't be playing UL would they?If it were only that easy ... Kentucky would take a huge public relations hit, and rightfully so, if they dropped the series altogether.
June 20, 200719 yr Because a lot of Louisville fans count on television as their chance to watch the game. Duh ... Go to a sports bar or watch the game at 11....Duh.
June 20, 200719 yr Go to a sports bar or watch the game at 11....Duh.If the game isn't televised live anywhere, how will they watch it live at a sports bar?
June 20, 200719 yr If the game isn't televised anywhere, how will they watch it at a sports bar? You can pretty much get any game you want to see at most bars....
June 20, 200719 yr You can pretty much get any game you want to see at most bars....Read closely ... if the game isn't televised live anywhere, there is no way a sports bar is going to be able to bring in a live telecast of it. Besides, why should Louisville fans have to resort to that when the game's been easily accessible on national TV for several years?
June 20, 200719 yr Because UL has built the foundation of their program by playing on National TV and reaping the rewards of the exposure. It was a PRIME spot as there was no competition for viewers on a holiday weekend. It was a knee jerk reaction last year after UK got their teeth kicked in. It was dumb then, and it's dumb now... But it's not a big game. If it were a rivalry game or something like that, maybe so, but when the only people who consider it a rivalry are the two schools involved, it's not much a rivalry IMO.
June 20, 200719 yr You think if UK wins, no one will see it? That's all we'll hear about in Kentucky for a year... Oh, and ESPN might say a little something about it as well. A little something about it is right. On the Sunday night before Labor Day how many games are there to report on? 2? Maybe 3? On the 3rd Saturday of the season how many are there? UF/UT and UM/ND will lead the show. UK beating UL might get two minutes of coverage any way it goes now. It's a case study on why UK will never be a big time football program. The best of the best know how important it is to be seen on a national stage. People in KY will be talking about it. Yippie...
June 20, 200719 yr But it's not a big game. If it were a rivalry game or something like that, maybe so, but when the only people who consider it a rivalry are the two schools involved, it's not much a rivalry IMO. So then there are only about 10 rivalry games a year nationally? The two schools involved considering it a rivalry makes it a rivalry. The game has received a ton of attention from ESPN since being moved in to the Sunday of Labor Day slot. It was the only game on, and they gave it a lot of air time. That's good for both programs. Now it will get nothing regardless of who wins. Lose/lose for both schools...
