Like 80% (admittedly bogus made up number) of the kids that like football in the state.
June 21, 200719 yr UL fans are upset because it costs them a valuable game on TV to a national audience at a prime time slot. That's a main building block they have used to climb the ladder of success. A lot of UK fans don't think it's a big deal because, well, UK fans don't think UK football is a big deal. They don't have the vision to understand how important exposure on this level can be, and they likely never will. Case in point. Remember 2 years ago when the game was at UK and the Cats were in it to the end? It's no coincidence that one of the best recruiting classes in UK history followed the next season. The program toiled in more obscurity off the national stage the rest of that year, but a lot of the kids remembered that game on ESPN. Telling a kid from 300 miles outside of KY that his family is still going to get to watch his games is a big recruiting tool. I don't see ANY good for UK in running from what both programs had in place. It's likely this year is a good game, and win or lose that would help UK. And the Cats are still not getting away from a Week 1 beat down in Papa Johns in 2008. It was a knee jerk reaction to the outcome last year, and it will burn UK in the long run. Fine with me. They don't seem to care either way... Excuse me for objecting because it's obvious you've got it all figured out....However, let me give it a go. (Pardon me ahead of time for being one of those ignorant little UK fans who "doesn't have the vision") UK fans care about football, period. There just hasn't been anything to muster up any sort of real excitement since last year. As for your case in point, I'll answer that question. Yes, I remember 2 years ago and the great game that it was. And yes, I would say that the following recruiting class was more luck and coincidence than anything else. Take a look at the top two recruits. Micah Johnson comes because he has a brother on the team and his dad will be able to see both of them play. Corey Peters, an in-state kid who knows how weak the UK Football program is historically, still decides to pick UK (probably because he sees PT). I'll contribute that one to luck. Take one or both of those two away and you have an extremely mediocre recruiting class. So I will go on record as guessing that in the end, UK lucked out on Johnson and Peters. By the way, since you've already got the 2008 matchup figured out, could you let me know what goes down in 2009...I'm chomping at the bit. gt, I said it in the other thread on this and I'll say it again. You're obviously a well respected poster on here by everyone, myself included. However, your anti-UK side is glaringly apparent on this issue for some reason.
June 21, 200719 yr I'm sure if UK knew so many non-UK fans would be so angry and hurt by their decision, they would have reconsidered. You can try to justify this with your love for UK...and that is fine..however it is bad, bad, bad.....Mitch says he wants exposure for the Cats...but it is quite obvious, he wants the latter knowing that there is a decent chance that UK could get throttled again, and with it not being televised not that many people would notice.

June 21, 200719 yr My stance is pretty simple. I think it's an AWFUL decision for UK to move out of the slot the game was aired in the past few years. I see zero good in it for UK. If that's my UK bias showing, so be it...

June 21, 200719 yr I'm not talking about the forums, I'm talking about the COVERAGE. UofL football gets as much coverage as any team in the country from ESPN. SI too, especially from Stewart Mandel. And it's almost all positive. And don't forget that hometown love from Pat Forde. Your right UL gets as much coverage on ESPN than USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida....oh my.

That would be my take.:lol: Seriously, the non-UK fan defending it says that he hasn't watched the game since Couch played in it, and it isn't a big deal. Anyone associated with the UofL program knows what role national exposure plays for the team, and it IS a big deal. Even someone like gametime, not associated with UofL, sees what Louisville's prominence on ESPN has done for the program and sees why it's a big deal. Yeah because gametime rarely says a negative word about the University of Kentucky. :lol:
June 21, 200719 yr Bottom line....UK didn't want to get WAXED, AGAIN, in Week 1 so they wanted the game moved...Chicken move, all the way around. Now, the game may not even be televised Live, so that makes it even better for UK. You guys are a riot as far as supporting your team...Say you support them all you want, if you REALLY did, you'd be mad about losing a National TV slot that your program DESPERATELY needs...The UK Football Program always has been and always will be a joke. Live it up, Cats fans.

June 21, 200719 yr Really? What at midnight on tape delay, Great! I thought ESPN Classic was going to pick it up? Everyone with Dish Network and Direct TV has ESPN Classic, as well as some cable customers.
