Wow...so much hating on The Stones. I was fairly surprised to see Led Zeppelin and Mr. Neil Young on here too. That leaves more for me, I suppose.

 

I have to say, the CMA's, VMA's, and even the Grammy awards nowdays are all pretty accurate showcases of the "big name" musical acts that I loathe on the contemporary music scene. However, if I were going through older acts that I've never liked, I could (to a large extent) toss in most new-wave artists, Molly Hatchet, Bachman Turner Overdrive, James Taylor, John Denver, Joan Baez, The Eagles, Peter Frampton, and Frank Zappa.

I'm old so let's get that out of the way. However, I am not anti-rap. I'm big time old-school rap.

 

However, I just don't get the fascination with Lil' Wayne or T-Pain. It's not old v new. I do like much of Jay-Zs stuff. I've come around a lot on Eminem although his old stuff is still a bit vile.

Jimmy Buffet.

 

Absolutely can't stand his music.

 

I wasn't a Buffet fan, then I went to a concert. Now I'm proud to say 8 concerts later that I'm a Parrothead !

I think Buffet is fun. I can't take a lot of music for very long though (and yes I've been to his show).

I have to attribute my dislike for both JT and Molly Hatchet to past jobs. The hardware store I worked in when I was a teenager cranked out Warm 98 on the intercom all day/every day, and you can count on listening to pretty much the entirety of James Taylor's Greatest hits at least once a day on that channel. Then in my first construction job, I was stuck doing punchout labor with one of the biggest Molly Hatchet fans on the face of the planet - or at least within the 275 loop. He played their albums one after another ALL DAY LONG on his piece of crap portable stereo while we worked.

 

If I never hear another song by James Taylor or Molly Hatchet for the rest of my life, I'll die a happy man.

I think I've said this before. If I can have 10 years, give me 1964-1973, and everyone else can have the rest.

Wholeheartedly agree on Dave Matthews. Without question Garth Brooks (well, pretty much all of country music for that matter). Jimmy Buffet is just awful and I lump him in with Dave Matthews in the "everything sounds the same" category. Have to agree on The Doors too, much to the chagrin of many. And ironically, Nirvana too, which is surprising because I was really into the 90's alternative scene.

 

But I have to say, Titletown...your critique of 80's hair bands stung. I'm the proud owner of both "Monster Ballads" CD.

Haven't played a Dixie Chicks record since she trashed the USA, couldn't care less either. There's plenty of music to be had without them.
