The Scribe Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 The Courier-Journal had a pretty good article and a couple of photo galleries marking the 30th anniversary of the tragic fire. LINK
The Scribe Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 Cincy Enquirer also had an impressive layout. LINK
cch5432 Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Correct me if I am wrong, but this place was in Southgate, right?

Birdsfan Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I'm sure we could all guess. :sssh: Yeah, if you read them all and know enough background.
Henry521 Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Wow, reading those brought back memories. I was 17 and out joy riding with friends when the fire trucks flew past us. Typical kids, we decided to follow the trucks to see where the fire was. We were actually with the first trucks to arrive at the scene. We parked at the bottom of the hill and it wasn't long before the road was closed and we were surrounded by rescue vehicles. We saw the entire sad event unfold in front of us.
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Not being a lifer here in Kentucky, I had NO IDEA that this even occurred. When something tragic like this happens, it always amazes me something as simple as checking wiring or double checking safety measures could have saved lives. It's great to see all the measures that are now in place, but that's really sad that it costs lives to get done.
LRCW Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Also a story in today's (Ashland) Daily Independent. I never realized before that 18 people from Ashland perished in the fire. http://www.dailyindependent.com/local

the poet Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 My dad was a volunteer for the HHFD during that time. The family was camping at AJ Jolly when the news broke. He reported to the fire house but his crew was already gone. So he took an available cot, threw it in the back of our Ford van and was the ONLY available EMT to service the rest of Campbell Co. should anybody else emergency assistance.
PepRock01 Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I actually did my 25 page History Methodolodgy paper on this fire a few years go. I spent many a day in the archives in Frankfort pouring over the official reports in addition to reading some info provided me by my brother (who is a firefighter). I also got to talk to Ron Elliot, the gentleman who wrote "Inside the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire." He was a tremendous help in my research. Despite the tedious amount of work I had to do for it, I found it extremely interesting if not completely heartbreaking.
Birdsfan Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Great story BF:thumb: Thanks RK. One other thing I didn't mention: My brother had his prom there the Saturday before that happened.
Run To State Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 That was excellent, BF. Very well written, sure brought back memories for me.
