"24"- 10:00pm to 11:00pm

Featured Replies

I love them both, and am a late convert to both, beginning the Shield with the 4th season and 24 with the 3rd (went back and watched the early seasons of both), but IMO The Shield is definitely better. The #1 reason I think it's better is that it being on FX, it can be more realistic in a lot of areas, and they're just generally given more freedom to do whatever they need to to make it great television.

Same here I'm a big fan of both, it's nice that you can catch old reruns of both on fx,spike, and A&E.

There are 7 episodes left and the last one will be a double...

I think this season has been a letdown. Everything that has happened this season has been similar to precious conflicts, BUT...

All that has changed at the conclusion of last weeks episode.

Now it's Jack vs. the Chinese!!!! It's almost like a new mini season has begun.

Am I the only one that thinks the world would be better off without CTU? Every single season they are either infiltrated by a mole or outright invaded. And as a result people die. Does that place even have security?

Oh, and how nice of them to kill off another character people like.

I've never watched "The Shield", but I have a couple of friends who love it and have tried to get me to. Just like I've tried to get them to watch 24. We're at a stalemate......they were also big fans of Nip/Tuck, so I questioned their show selection. Just kidding, before I offend any Nip/Tuck fans.

If 24 has "filler" episodes, then they are some of the best on television. The whole premise of the show is classic...24 episodes, one per each hour of the day while they try to stop a terrorist plot...I've been watching for the past 3 seasons, and every episode is intense and action-packed, unlike any show I ever watched. It just happens that some shows are more intense and exciting, but that doesn't mean the others are fillers, that's just the way it works.

There are some things I don't like about 24, it seems a bit unrealistic to me. The reason I used the "filler" argument is because this thread started off with "this show needed a good episode" or something of that sort. I've NEVER watched an episode of The Shield that I've been disappointed with. As a matter of fact, I got my old roommate in to watching it (he watches 24, Lost, Prison Break, Grey's etc) and he says "The shield" is the best show he's ever watched, by far. That surprised me, because he watches a lot of TV.

I think the writing is better in The Shield...but that's just my opinion. :thumb:

I think a big difference in the two shows is 24, of course, is in real time. It would be unrealistic for 24 to have the same amount of non-stop action as is in "The Shield". I believe 24 does a great job of pacing the episodes and building characters and plots.

I've got to admit that I stopped watching. It just wasn't getting it done for me. How many times can one guy defune a nuke seconds before it goes off?

It's still my favorite show on TV. This season hasn't been the best, but the feud between Jack and his Pops is about to get good IMO...

^I completely agree....I think the China element was a good addition....Kinda changes things up a bit.

Do we find out Josh is his son before the season ends...

I say yes....I think we also see one more "main" character die.

You think Jack will kill his father?

Not this season...

This season has been pretty good, IMO. Not the best season of 24, but still better than anything else on TV...it's the whole premise of the show to me. If you're not really into that one episode for each hour of the day thing, then you probably aren't going to love the show. That changes the way the whole show has to be written...it's not like other dramas where they can manipulate the time however they want...I think it would be more challenging to write a show like 24, personally, and I think they do a great job. Sure, there are other shows that probably have more character depth and all that, but that's not what this show is about. Besides, they do a pretty good job of character development within the framework of the show.

Not knocking "The Shield" though...how can I? I've never watched it. I imagine I'd like it because I liked Training Day and from what I've heard about The Shield, there are some similarities...

I'm just a hardcore 24 fan, plain and simple. My only regret is that I didn't start watching it sooner. On a related note, I recently found Season 1 on sale at Target for $18...I took it to the clerk and asked, "Is this right?" and he said yes, so I bought it. I couldn't pass on that...
