The reason the All A Classic uses 10-12 enrollment is because that is what the KHSAA used for classification purposes when the All A went statewide in the late 1980s.

 

I suspect the KHSAA used three grades because back then, some schools (Paducah Tilghman and Marshall County in my area) had junior high schools with grades 7-9 and only sophomores and up in the high school.

There has to be a cut off somewhere and the present number has been successful so far but as a Gallatin fan I will sure miss having Owen in the All A.

Most of the high schools are 9-12. Having the 9th graders in another building wouldn't stop a school from sending in 9-12 numbers. Just add them together.

Yes they do.

Wouldn't using 9-12 enrollment numbers or "current" numbers be nearly impossible for football and the basketball All-A?

 

Schools would not know the correct numbers until after the first football game. And if a school is suddendly too big for the All-A the basketball schedules are already set.

 

Why not use the enrollment of boys in grades 9-11 from the previous school year? I believe that Ohio does something similar to this.

It doesn't matter if it is 425 grades 10-12 or 570 grades 9-12. The point is there is a cut off. Didn't Owen get to play one year over the limit? This year!

That is fine too. 9-11 in Year A is the basically the same as 10-12 in Year A+1.

It is a curious choice of words. They could say, "We will miss the competition of the All-A" or "We felt the All-A gave our school and community something to look forward to every January".

Maybe because 90 percent of the high schools in Kentucky are 9-12. Jefferson County high schools are 9-12. Why would the All "A" not use 9-12?
