The problem with Valentin catching is he stinks defensively. Additionally, he gets run on all day.

 

I'd rather see them give Moeller some starts, keep Valentin in his role (spot starts, #1 PH) and give Ross time to clear his head.

I agree, however, if the theory is that you want to keep Javy on the pine to appear in a pinch-hitting role, my opinion is that why not give him the 4 AB's and you may not be in need for the pinch hit.

For some reason it seems like Narron does not like complete games being pitched. He did this to Bronson a few times last year, yanked him out in the 9th a few times.

In most cases with a team that has a proven closer, i would agree with you. But Id take my chances with my starter that has been dominating over Stormy in a one run game.

He's just not one of those SLAM the door closers. It's more like he slowly, gently shuts the door and holds the knob so it doesn't make that clicking sound when it latches...

I'm kind of with Sticky (and Narron) on this one. Why leave a guy out there, with 114 pitches, far exceeding his normal outing, when one mistake (to the meat of the order) can ruin the day. If it is 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, or worse, I'm 100% with you.

Narron has been put in that same situation that Tubby Smith was in this past year. Either way he was going to be questioned and at times unfairly blasted.

I don't know, other than he was a poorer fielder than Valentin. But to sacrifice offense (almost totally when you are under .100) for a mildly subpar defensive liability in Valentin, well,,,,,I would have Javy in there IMO. It's not like Valentin is pathetic defensively. And I'm not opposed to Moeller either, but Ross is currently like our 7y.o. right fielder on my minor league team,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,inning killer!

SIX X 42: Ken Griffey Jr. had six No. 42 jerseys in his locker before Sunday's game. He wore 42 against the Cubs to honor Jackie Robinson on the 60th anniversary of Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier.

Lohse was as good as it gets on Sunday. He has the potential to be something special. Unless he indicated that he was done after eight, I don't know that I would have pulled him. He was dominating. I am worried about some of the sticks in our lineup. I hope the guys starting swinging the bats better as the weather warms up for good.

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Cincinnati Reds utilityman Ryan Freel agreed to terms Monday on a two-year contract extension that will take him through arbitration and into free agency.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Freel's current contract would have expired after this season, making him eligible for arbitration. Instead, he is under contract through 2009, when he will be eligible for free agency.

 

Freel, 31, is batting .243 this season. He joined the Reds in 2003 and has batted .274 with 19 homers and 91 RBI in 442 games games with Cincinnati and Toronto.

Eric Milton's first two seasons with the Cincinnati Reds weren't very successful. His third has not gotten off to a good start.

 

The left-hander will look to bounce back from a poor season debut when the NL Central-leading Reds open a two-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ballpark on Monday night.

 

Milton, who is 16-24 with a 5.90 ERA in 61 career starts since joining the Reds in 2005, is in the final year of his $25.5 million contract. He's won eight games each of the last two seasons after winning at least 13 four times with Philadelphia and Minnesota.
