Not trying to be negative but do you see this happening? When you couple Coach Glaser's reluctance to make changes (already noted in this thread by the X-men) with the fact that he openly criticized his primary rival for this exact method over the past few years. It makes it kind of hard for him to reverse field and declare that it is now the answer. JMO, of course.

This is actually a great question. One thing I have found about Glaser and his tremendous career, is that he has always done it "his" way...changing it up like that would certainly go against what he normally does.

I do not believe this will happen. Coach Glaser has stressed over the years trying to play as many kids as possible.

You are not being negative to note what many see as a positive about Glaser. He has enjoyed great success over the years with this system, including a state title and state runner up in the previous three years. Whether he would be more successful playing fewer players is difficult to discern, but it is just not his way.

Some coaches (Glaser, Lampley) have had success by playing a large number of kids. Others (Beatty) tend to rely more on the best athlete philosophy. Success has seemed to follow both systems.

Good point and I may add that Redman is on the other end of the spectrum but still has had success.

Glaser has won it quite a bit with power and size. That's the game that X plays, and I would be shocked to see them go a different route.

I would love to see a backfield with DJ, Duece and Simmons. That's a lot of power, speed and headaches for defenses. I don't feel like there was enough sets with Vic and Deuce last year. INjuries limited the opportunities for both to be healthy at the same time.

To get better, this year's team needs to be tougher. I felt that last year's team wasn't tough enough. Believe me, the defense will be tough enough. There are 5 guys that are tough and mean. Like nasty mean. Heuser, Hale, Hildt, Coombs, and Carpenter. I remember Carpenter in the freshmen game just ripping the ball away from Dutton when T had the game won if they take a knee. What a lot of people don't know is that Jamie Brown said he needed the ball back and Carpenter walked up to him and said he was going to do it before the play. I also forgot Chad Showalter on defense too as the SAM backer or whatever they call it in the 4-3. From reports I've heard though, this year's team has been getting after it in the offseason.

One thing about Deuce is that he is a great receiver on routes with phenomenal hands. While sophomores are great in dazzle, with our line, we may need Knotts as a lead blocker at the point of attack for Zoeller and Finch. 3 yards and a cloud of rubber (remember, we have sport turf!!) works well on first down.

Pound the opposition with the power of Deuce, Zoeller, Montano and Knotts, and then send them to La-La Land with the dazzle of Neal and Conley. :D

Much like you, I am really concerned about finding help for Gahm on the OL. Matt Smith may be one busy young man this season. Where have all the BIG BOYS gone?

In regards to the LB's in the 4-3, they are usually referred to as Sam, Mike and Will.

The O-Line will be green but they will be fine and more athletic than the past couple of years, like the 95 and 97 teams.

I like the way Duece said no to baseball and yes to the weight room this spring!

^ This is what I mean when I say are O and D lines must be quicker and more agile than 05 and 06... Sure we can beat 95% of the teams with size and strength, its the other 5% that I want to beat where we have fallen due to lack of quickness and agility on line play. This leads to situations where an offense or a defense can plan their play around the ineffectivness of line play. If all I need is a 25% block on the D tackle left shoulder, then I better get in position to make that play instead of trying to muscle myself into position. Strength is extremely important, yet the lack of quickness can nullify this strength in many situations.....

Strength punishes......Speed kills...ROCKS 07

I could have sworn this was a 2007 St. Xavier thread...

I predict that you will see 4 maybe 5 kids play both sides of the ball this season.

5 is a ton of kids to be playing both ways...

5 is a ton of kids to be playing both ways...

I agree. Seeing 1 or 2 would be a surprise. Seeing 5 would make me think that Glaser has gone insane.
