The thing is Pettigrew couldnt elevate his team enough to get the team out of the district. I am sorry, but what you do in March to me is what makes players great.

Pettigrew played against a few teams in the state tournament, and some that didn't make the tournament but were pretty good. Looks like his team failed in the W column but that doesn't mean he didn't play well, just means his team just wasnt' good enough.

I know South had a pretty cool celebration when they won it. Was even treated to a Roscoe Denney tune! :lol:

 

I would've checked it out, but after the week that was, all I wanted to do was go home and knock back a few beers.

I like walls for Mr. Basketball

I don't know how to do a poll... does a mod have to set it up? It would be interesting to see who would get the BGP votes v/s who gets the real votes. (and to compare to other polls taken earlier in the season.

 

Walls, Pettigrew, Profitt, Brooks, Knowles, Fralix, Becham, others?

You have to go with Pettigrew you just can not deny the numbers he put up this year. As for Walls he had a good season but I no for alot of people the only chance they really got to see him play was the championship game and it was not his best game.

IMO Walls was so good because of his supporting cast. When you have that many talented players around you, every team can't key on you.

 

Pettigrew on the other hand had a huge target on his back EVERY game. HE put up 28 against Holmes at Holmes and that was the most any player put up on Holmes this year...and we all know their defense is pretty solid.

 

I think a darkhorse should be Holmes' Austin Hill. He averaged 20 PPG, 6 RPG , shot 93 % from the free throw line, and 42 % from 3 point range in the state tournament. He was also 9th region POY and averaged 19 PPG during the regular season.

 

I think a Mr. Basketball is someone who not only puts up a lot of points but also has the assists and rebounds to go along with it, because yea you can put up 25 points a game, but if you aren't getting your team involved and helping out with every aspect, you're only good at one thing...scoring points.

 

That's just my 2 cents, but I think Pettigrew is a more deserving candidate.

You know what is real confusing is how Hill can put numbers like that up in the tournment and not make the all state team. Can someone explain that to me.:mad:

I was shocked to see Hill didnt make the all tournament team. I know he didnt have a very good game in the semi's but I thought he still deserved it.

 

I really am torn on who should be Mr. Basketball. Everybody makes good points. Do you penalize Pettigrew for no supporting cast, do you penalize Walls for having one of the best players in the state on his team? Really hard to say. I want to lean toward Walls b/c they won and he was the leader out there for them.

Although he will not win it, Austin Hill from Holmes is the best player I've seen this year and I believe hes probabily the best player in the state after his performances against some of the best teams in the state. With that being said I believe Pettigrew will get the award, you can't deny those stats, yes he played on a weak team 34pts and 14rebound is just that, I don't care who you play for so he is more than deserving also. My vote goes to Hill like I said, but Pettigrew will win the award.
