Pettigrew from E'town.

I believe that if your going to win Mr. Basketball I think you should atleast be able to make it to the regional tournament, in a region that isnt very strong. Matt Walls led Scott Co all year to an undefeated season, beat the #1 ranked team in the nation at the time, and has been a great player all year.

SHOULD be mr. Pettigrew but will be given to mr. Walls just because he "won" state.

I think its a 2 man race with Walls and Pettigrew. And I always favor the player who gets it done in March. That is obviously Matt Walls.

Has the Miss and Mr Basketball ever come from the same school? If Gray wins the girls, don't know if the powers to be will want Walls to win the boys. Maybe he deserves it, but image the howling if Scott County Kids win both awards.....

Is this why E-town did not make it out of the region.....Of course not. Team does matter. You have to look at the schedule this kid has played this year (Walls).

 

I will take Pettigrew. It is great that Walls' team won the whole thing but Pettigrew shouldn't be punished because he doesn't play on a loaded team. Mr. Basketball is an individual award.

 

Does anyone know the last player to win it and a state championship in the same season?

On a serious note - oldguy makes a good point. However, I thought it was a media voting decision. I would guess that they are less likely to care if both come from SC than KHSAA or KABC.

There's nothing Pettigrew could do about the teams he played against or the quality of the other players on his team... and there's nothing Walls can do about attending the same school where the #1 girls basketball player also attends.

I agree 100 % Pettidrew, should win it hands down

Walls also can't help it that he has faced the best talent in the state every time he steps on the court and is arguably the Most valuable player on the team that won the state championship

If Pettigrew played for SC I believe the would have still been in the same position.

Pettigrew is better than Walls. As with any award, state politics will play a role.

I would have to say Matt Walls. IMO should have been Sweet 16 MVP also.
