Poet, your story is backwards...Fisher took over when the headcoach agreed to coach at Arizozna State and Bo told him to leave that a Michigan would coach Michigan and that new man was Steve Fisher. The coach who didn't get to coach Michigan was Bill Frieder. You know he felt weird after Michigan won it all.

Thanks for correcting me on the coach. But the point being made is the AD not letting a lame duck coach his team. I feel that Florida is letting Billy D. stay on because of the success he brought to them.

I was in vegas when this broke and didn't have access to a computer until late Friday night. I have pretty much read every post on this subject since then and have formed a few thoughts.

 

One of those thoughts is alot of UK fans are whacko (although I won't limit this to just UK fans, they just happen to be the topic). Some of the rumors or "my source says" stories on here are comical at best. There is one maybe two posters on here at best that I feel like are crediable with their info. I will wait for those guys to pass info before I take anything I read on here to heart.

No, but a lot of Tubby supporters said or implied it.

 

Alot of what the people said were direct quotes from Patterson and Lucas themselves..If you recall, both said, the Tubby situation would definately make a difference in there decision...Since Donavon was also in on Patterson, it may mean we still get him, but, Lucas was down to Oklahome, Ok St, UK and Maryland, so, Donavan and the Gators have never really been in on him, so, the only way UK may get him, would be if Patterson comes as it seems that they would like to play together...

While I don't appreciate you calling my buddies liars, you are entitled to your own opinion. I'd like to hear the facts you have to prove my buddy wrong, since you clearly state that its a fact that my buddy is a liar or was given bad info.

I'm not saying he's not coming. I'm telling you the reason that you believe it to be so, this story, is ridiculous!

 

Why is it so ridiculous? If you think that negotiations aren't taking place behind closed doors and telephones, then you're blind. Tubby (the most ethical of all) negotiated his new job before the NCAA tourney evan began.

Well for one, MB is not going to just give Billy D. a large amount of money unless he has signed a contract. Obviously Donavon can't do that while under contract with Florida. It would also be very unethical to send money to a job canidate as a form of a "bribe".

 

Donovan may very well be the next coach, but I highly doubt any money has changed hands yet.

He claims that Billy D addressed the team after the game today and informed them that win or lose it all he was going to UK. So they might as well go out as champs together.

 

Another guy is claiming to be a UK student that is got friends with Meeks and Jasper. Claims Meeks called him on the phone and that Mitch has meet with the team and advised them that Billy D would be the next coach. Mitch and Billy have been speaking for over two weeks going back to the SEC tourny.

Lets say this does happen, Billy D comes to UK. Yesterday I read a lot of "this is a sad day for the university of Kentucky" and "this will set the program back 5-10 years." How is everyones outlook on the state of UK basketball now ? How many of you would rather have Tubby coaching next season as opposed to Billy D ? I'm not calling anyone out, this is an honest question...

I said about 2 months ago that I felt that while undeserving the atmosphere at UK had become to the point that Tubby needed to leave. It harkens of the Bob Huggins/UC situation.

 

I have also said that I believe Billy D is the ONLY coach that can immediately change that atmosphere.

 

An atmosphere that it is about UK basketball and not all the negativity that has surrounded UK basketball this year. Immediately after a win it was the UK fans ask where all the TBers were. And after a loss, it was all the TBers saying see, see, see.

I was referring to people saying it was 100% Tubby, and there were a few. Obviously the coach of whatever school you're looking at is a major factor.

Because they have said one of the big reasons why UK was in the top 3 was because of Tubby. Jai Lucas even commented on after he heard that Tubby left how that might change things because "HE LOVED TUBBY" So us Tubby supporters were right in saying it. However those are guys who want to also go to a program where they can win alot, and they know at Minnesota it wont have that good of a chance. So even though they love Tubby they wont go there. So people saying sarcastic stuff like well if they really liked Tubby as much as we say then they would go to Minnesota is wrong and are just trying to take another shot at Tubby for no reason..So now if we want to see them two here, Billy D. would be are only chance at getting them, because Billy D. when it come to P.P. atleast has been recruiting him as well...

After the final 4 is played, the national champion has been crowned, Billy D. may come to Lexington for an interview...... But when all the pm's have been sent, in all reality, Billy D. will not be the next UK coach. Way to many negatives to jump into the UK fishbowl. On the flip side, Billy D. is the only true candidate for the job. He is UK's man and UK needs him bad........ IF,somehow the world stopped spinning, and Billy D. jumped to UK, UK basketball would be one off season from a top 20 program..... Two seasons from a top 12 program and three from a top 8...... I think all the UK fans can life with this ....... BUT its not going to happen folks. Billy D. is to smart a guy and coach to come to UK.......... You list all the positives and negatives of FLA vs UK and I think you end up with FLA and possible back to back NCAA's.... I would love to see Billy D. in Lexington, but its not going to happen.

The one thing that Donovan knows and this has been mentioned on here many times is this: He could win a string of NC's comparable to UCLA at Fla. and football would still be #1 there. Another factor is that he also fully realizes the expectations and pressures on the head coach at U.K.. Imo it is a matter of if he would want to stay at UF (with what I am sure would be a VERY healthy raise and financial package ) and always play 2nd fiddle to football or come to U.K. where basketball is basically the only sport in town.
