7th straight state crown to private schools

Featured Replies

A private school broke the rules. I don't know what penalty, if any, was handed down. I don't remember reading anything about a penalty announced by the KHSAA. The kid went back to public school for a year then dropped out. Because he was a juvenile, I'm not going to give his name. I'm sure the allegation was forwarded to the KHSAA because his tuition magically ran out and he went back to public school and living in public housing. Use the PM if you want details.

These are chest pumping accusations.

Half at most.....which is still more expensive than free, I think

BTW, if we "urban" folk have an advantage...maybe that's where the split would be...urban champs, and rural champs...cool with me...who do you think would have more exposure then. Would that satisfy your need to crown everyone champion.

Yeah, they could play the "rural championship" in front of a few hundred of their closet friends. When the players get to college (in heaven forbid a....city) their new friends from metro areas can kid them about their quasi-state championship. Maybe you rural activists haven't noticed but most of the population of the entire state resides connected to the metro areas. If you are allowed to have your own championship, what have you really won? It would likely be a "state title" won between schools involving 20 or 30 percent of the state's population. I wonder which title would be recognized as the "real" champion? I also wonder if the rural schools will want to cherry-pick competeing in years that they could compete with the "big city" schools? Everthing isn't equal, everything isn't fair. Yet some find a way to win. Note Danville in football, or Woodford County in wrestling, etc.

Where will the "field-leveling" end?

I agree, I would reather much see a private and public championship and then after those two winners have wont their respected championship, then play for a state one, where both of them play in one final game.

We did that in week 3 of the playoffs: Trinity beat Male 38-34 at Male.

If I lived in Louisville its simple my child would go to Male or Trinity but I live in Pike County so my child will go to Belfry.

Why post that, well I look at it like this my child will go to the school that has the best facilities for academics and athletics based on what is available where I live.

I have no problem with Trinity or large private schools in general.

My problem lies with schools that have 80 -200 kids k-12 in certain parts of the state that just so happen have 10-18 basketball players that all can ball, a few of which are 6'8".

Trinity has 2,000 they should dominate, heck I wonder why they are not better in basketball?

Trinity has 2,000 they should dominate

FYI Trinity has around 1,400 students, not 2,000. I know that is a common myth out in the state. :thumb:

I don't want to call you a liar, so I will ask you to put up or shut up as the rules of this site require. If you know of any "Bobby Chitwoods" getting a free ride, report it. I don't think they exist. I find your "know it all attitude" far more "sarcastic" and "arrogant" than my comments but this is an opinion board. What about the other analogies? It seems to me those inequities would bother you far more than who wins the girls state basketball trophy.

It was a fictional statement made to combat your tired argument. No veiled implication on anyone.

I do find it interesting you want to justify your point by something that happened in ANOTHER STATE and over 50 years ago. I guess you feel we should get rid of all the rules that basketball has adopted in the past 50 years and play TRUE-Milan basketball, too.

I don't know it all. I freely admit it. Try it sometime it is refreshing. I am discussing concerns from a rural public school's view. If you have that similar view or know everything that goes on in our lives in preparing athletes, don't read my posts because they will not give you any enlightment.

I have been enlighted and educated by private schools and their posts because I openly consider them. Starting this debate months ago, I was for Prop 20. Listening to the arguments my opinion changed as I began to see the points that privates had. That this is NOT just a private/public argument.

I haven't doggedly closed my ears to the arguments of other viewpoints and have honestly considered the ones made even in rude and sarcastic manner.

As far as the other inequities, visit the P & R site where I address those things and feel the local churches need to do more in communities across this country to address the inequities that you mention.

Another tired argument of being everyone being named champion. In the class thread, I gave the approximate facts of the matter.

.4% of the present basketball players received a state championship trophy.

With 4 classes, that number jumps to 1.5%.

Hardly EVERYONE.

I am comfortable with adding 1% to the number of HS basketball players that receive a state championship trophy. Why is that number too much for you?

^ Because the system in baskeball works now....I bet if you took the state's 5 largest schools none of us have won the Sweet 16 anytime soon....at least I don't think so.

No doubt that the system we have now works in some regards. But, I and alot of other people believe we could have a system that works better.

On your point on everyone getting a trophy, do you agree that the number of state trophies that would be given out, in no way comes close to being everyone or on the level of participation trophies?

This is the topic of many conversations around my house.:D

It's bad enough that in football we are going to be rewarding teams with losing records...actually 98% of them will be making the tourney.

Four classes is way too many ... two would be enough.

1400 is a good number.

I would love to have the HC job for Trinity basketball, I know they are in a tough region but a trip to the Sweet 16 once every 3-4 years is realistic.

Okay, no basketball , baseball, or softball team with a losing record plays in the postseason. In wrestling, tennis, swimming no athlete with a losing record participates in the postseason.

Is that the direction people want to go?
