April 5, 200719 yr I will say this. If they put a catholic boys school (with a football program) right dead smack in the middle of Florence, KY and made it 4AAAA or whatever the new highest divison is, I GUARANTEE you, that the Louisville catholic schools would not come close to dominating the NKY schools like they do now. If a football team here could get kids from: Boone/Ryle/Conner/Dixie/Lloyd/Covcath/Beechwood, and other small schools in the area we too would have a powerhouse. If we had a school that had the advantages a Trinity or whoever down there has, where your taking kids from entire counties and cities, instead of breaking them down into small portions like we do, we would dominate. When Dixie Heights went down there and beat Trinity on their own turf... that would only be about maybe 11-14% of a team we could create.

Never has so much been made of a single upset. :fire:

Actually any Catholic high school in NKY in theory can draw from any area of NKY. So could any independent public school. How is it the fault of Trinity or St.X that NKY people in charge decided to put multiple Catholic high schools in NKY? Or that every city wants to have an independent school district? Or that county powers in charge prefer to build another high school instead of expanding a current one? How good of a football team would CovCath/NewCath/Holy Cross be combined? How good of a football team would Boone Co/Ryle/Conner be combined? What about Highlands/Campbell Co/Newport/Bellevue/Dayton The answer is we won't ever know because thats just the way it is.

There are no 4A catholic schools with football programs are there? CovCath is as high as it gets. If they had a 4A catholic school near Florence, they would not only take kids from CovCath, but from all the schools in NKY combined. The results would change football completely. Its not gonna happen, if anything its going to get worse, theres rumors of another public high school going into Boone County that will further split up Boone/Ryle/Conner.

From what I have gathered from the posters on here and I have no other direct knowledge, it is not as simple as that. From what the BGP posters (and please correct me if I am wrong on this account), the diocese divides NKY into different areas to feed certain Catholic schools. Probably occurs this way because of NKY being multiple counties were Jefferson is obviously one. Now, a parent could choose to go to any of the private schools as you imply but would have to pay a higher tuition cost for going "out of district." I can't believe the Catholic private schools would think that NCC/Brossart can "own" the Catholic kids in Campbell County.:sssh:

Villa Madonna and Covington Latin have no feeder schools (because of their academic cir.) so they can draw anyone from anywhere no out of district tuition. If you attend a private grade school in Campbell County you can go to Brossart or NCC no out of district tuition to either. I have even had people tell me that if you address the matter you can even not pay out of district tuition to Notre Dame or CovCath because they are the only single sex schools available in the diocese.

Its only like an additonal $500 to go to CCH or NDA if your out of district isn't it?

Trust me APNW, it doesn't work like that at all. I live out of distirct, and my daughter goes to NDA, so if I could save myself the $480 I would. TUITION/FEES (2006 - 2007 school year) Tuition: $4800 for in-district students $5280 for out-of-district Catholic students $5850 for others Fees: $ 600 for all students; includes books

April 16, 200719 yr Having lived on both sides of this debate, my concern is that the public school systems aren't dealing with the issues that cause parents to seek out private schools. Maybe no child left behind leads to fewer children get ahead?
April 16, 200719 yr Having lived on both sides of this debate, my concern is that the public school systems aren't dealing with the issues that cause parents to seek out private schools. Maybe no child left behind leads to fewer children get ahead? I am not being flippant with this statement at all, but to show the concern of public teachers. What are they supposed to do about a federal government mandate of no child left behind? The NEA has publically been opposed to the program and privately has been lobbying to change. What is the KHSAA, a state athletic organization, supposed to do about a federal education plan? While private schools pretty much have most of their decision making ability within their school system, the public schools do not. The federal government gives them a big litany of things to do. The state government gives them a big litany of things to do.

I am only sharing concern that we try to offset these external influences and end up with a worse situation. (I hope that makes sense.)
