Saw where several posters had listed how many years they had been attending the State Tourney. Thought it would be interesting to see who and how many years posters have taken in this great event.

 

I started attending when I was in the 8th grade...1965. I have only missed a few since then. Thought it was 30+ but I have seen 40+ tournments..

How long have some of you been attending?

This will be my 41st as you saw in the other thread.

 

Also congrats gold sunrise to your GRC Cardinals, I attended the championship game on Sunday, a very solid team.

Since 1990 for me.

This will be my 23 year that I have at least caught part of the tournament. Have not missed a game in the last 15 years.

This will be my 16, not consecutive but total. This will be my 11th in a row.

I started attending in 1971 when I was 6 years old. I attended every year up until 1985. I did not attend from 1985 until 1998 ( except in 1991) . I have attended from 1999- present.

 

I enjoyed the early days at Freedom Hall, the chocolate malts, the venders selling junk, eating at King Fish and missing school. (those were the days)

first one was '82, Paul Andrews shot. I was 11 yrs old. I didn't completely miss another until 2000. Haven't seen one since...of course, I haven't lived in KY for that long.

My first one attending was in 1978 and I was fortunate to play in it in 80'. Haven't missed one since 78'.

1965 was the first year that Pendleton made the sweet 16.

 

I was born in 1986. I am told that I attended games throughout my elementary years but the earliest games I can remember is during the late 90's when Highlands went to Rupp a few years in a row. I think I remember them playing Graves Co. and Henderson Co.

 

So I'm estimating about 12 or 13 years that I have been to the state tournament.

 

I also was very fortunate to play in one!

 

P.S. I missed the sweet 16 in 2006 for a very important reason.:thumb:

Went every year from '80-'94, since then I've got a few games, mostly championship games and good matchups for the 9th region.

I saw a few games at Freedom Hall in the early '70s when I was in college, but I started going regularly since it has been at Rupp, with a couple of exceptions when it has been held at Freedom Hall.

My grandson attended his first Sweet Sixteen in March after he was born in January. He's been to every one of them since...AND WILL PLAY IN THIS ONE! I've been listening to them on the radio since the 1940s and have attended several, both at Rupp and Freedom Hall, the site of Christian County's first state appearance in the early 70s and UHA's triumph in 1992. Looking forward to being there in Rupp Thursday and Friday.

That is a great story to be watching your grandson play in the state.

Jim Wallace, a former head coach at Trigg County in the 1960s and 70s, will be making his 51st straight Sweet 16 appearance this year. He will admit he hasn't stayed for every championship game but has seen a round in 51 straight years -- and none of those as a player.
