Did you notice after the games the hugs and talking back and forth between the CCH guys and the Holmes guys. These kids come from very different worlds but I can tell you from Cov Cath's side that there's no one they respect more and have had more fun playing against. Durran gave big hugs to Bo, BB and TJ who he's played against and with on AAU and summer teams for a long, long time. Class game by the kids and class comments afterwards, Good luck Dawgs end the 9th Region draught !!!!!

 

Yes it was good to see all the players from both teams still congratulating one another after the game. Jefferson gave every single one of the all region players a hug during the ceremony. And the CCH guys did the same. Class act by both schools. Interesting quote in the enquirer that really stood out to me by Jefferson was:

I don't get the quote? He must have been so ecstatic that he couldn't stick to one idea, or am I missing something? Seems like he's jumping from point to point.

Truthfully I think Listerman is too stubborn for zone. He thinks his kids are good enough defenders. Which they are, but not against this Holmes team. You had to switch it up some.

CCH is smart enough, athletic enough, and way too aggressive a group to 'sit back' in anything. They certainly could have thrown some different defenses out and been very effective at it. My question is who teaches offense? They have been pretty average all year and gotten away with it. People say it's 'disciplined' offense? They run frustrated sets to nowhere, then get a shot they could have gotten by dribbling down and firing it...This group had multiple scorers...from my view, they never came close to their offensive potential...they got worse. I've never seen a team spend an entire season making things tougher on themselves offensively by running frustrating sets, with different people on the floor every 50 seconds or so, (with no apparent rhyme or reason) except to just get them in? The difference in this game was offense. That has been their self-inflicted achiles heal all year and Holmes at full roster is too good to get away with it.

Shear will and athleticism may be able to get a group like that to the show...some insight, adjustment and savy is needed to win it. 17 seonds left; in the double bonus; consecutive time outs; the game is yours to win; and you saw what they came up with? I'm guessing the kids just choked and froze after hitting key free throws and fighting and clawing themselves into that position?

Respect to Holmes. Respect to CCH. As a die hard Holy Cross fan an alum, I've had to swallow my pride since 94'. Simply giving credit where credit is due. Looking forward to watching the Dogs take care of business at Rupp.

Since you are such an expert on what defenses to play I would love to know why you didn't bash Coach Listerman when he beat Holmes so many times the past years (or did you?). Do you always just bash coaches when they loose or that is the only time you speak out. What is Coach Listermans record against Holmes? Enough said! Always amazes me how many experts there are on here when a coach looses. Sure Faust is a good coach and there are many in Northern Ky., including Coach Listerman. What coach Faust showed Coach LIsterman the other night was how to blow a lead and loose. Coach Listerman's decision to play his style brought him back from being down 12 to a 2 point lead with less than a minute. Sometimes things are not meant to be. Great job Coach Listerman! How does he do it without the help of people like you on his bench advising him.

2. Holmes can beat you on the offensive glass v Zone

 

Holmes absolutly dominated St. Henry on the boards and eventually they took advantage and made some easy ones and took control. St. Henry was in the game for 32 minutes; CCH was in it for 36 minutes.

I think he stuck with his bread and butter (the man 2 man) and did not try and throw a curve ball. He had the formula obviously, beating Holmes 3x, but the chips did not fall.

Bottom line is this, whether you play a zone or man to man against Holmes, they have the athletes to beat it.

 

Man to man, Holmes will kill you with penetration and not many teams have 5 players who can evenly match up with Rice, Hill, Henderson, and Jefferson. They create match up problems all over the court.

 

Sit back in a zone, and Holmes will look for alley oops all day as they did against CCH to start OT. Also as CoachcSu said, they'll kill you on the offensive glass if you sit back in a zone.
