Yea I watched. The man-man produced a tie 60-60 at the end of regulation. Whats wrong with that. I saw the better team win the game. Do you really blame coach Listerman for the loss. Or do you think the fact that Holmes hit just about every free throw in OT had something to do with it? As of right now Listerman is the best coach with the best "program in the 9th region". I have a feeling they will be competing for the regional title again next year. Give Holmes their due for a great accomplishment. They won. nough said!

 

Let me start by saying that Holmes won this game, and congratulations.

 

Look, as fballstud has been saying all year, "this is the game that matters". Coach L beat them 3 times this year, and his team lost the game that counted. They didn't adjust when it really counted.

 

You can argue that "it's not Listerman's fault, he beat them three times." Everyone knows that in the first three games, neither team wanted to show the other team their top stuff (plays, sets, ect.) When both teams had it all on the line, Holmes had superior preperation and execution, and CovCath did not. Whose fault is that?

Maybe if he makes adjustments, he actually winst the game. However, let me say that I am being a little unfair. The truth is I doubt Cov. Cath. ever actually worked on a zone or any other defense, therefore there was no alternative to really go to. There are coaches who feel you should work on one defense, become the best you can at it, rather than stretch yourself with alternatives. A theory, which I disagree with, but one in which Bobby Knight has certainly had much success with.

 

 

Listerman certainly has top talent and that can make anyone look good. John Messmer proved in Ft. Thomas that talent can win an awful lot of games.

I feel pretty confident in saying that CovCath has at least 4 zones that they work on at practice at least once a week.

Remember boys your down there to win a state championship, don't get into any trouble. Your representing more than Holmes High School. Your representing your team, your families, your friends, your community and the whole NKY area. We all will be cheering for you and we know you'll make eveyone proud.

:thumb: All year we argued over whether or not Holmes was the best team in the region. A lot of us said no, but now that they have pulled it together, it is pretty obvious that they are. This chance might not come around again for a while, put your name in the history books.

I thought that Grimes, Scruggs, and Gifford from Lafeyette were on this team as well?

 

Scruggs and Gifford came off the bench. Grimes was the only other player who consistently started.

One time was to Hill for a quick layup and the other time was when Rice tried to dunk and ended up just laying the ball on the rim.

That night I didn't recognize they were changing to zone, but coaches I have talked to since have said it.

I'm not offering this as gospel, but what I have been told by people that know the game and the teams.

CCH opened OT in a zone and Holmes threw an alley oop on the first possession. When Holmes sees the zone they look for the over the top pass as you stated.

Four zones and man to man. Man, pardon the pun, they must spend countless time in practice on defense alone to be good at five different sets.
