Maybe if he makes adjustments, he actually winst the game. However, let me say that I am being a little unfair. The truth is I doubt Cov. Cath. ever actually worked on a zone or any other defense, therefore there was no alternative to really go to. There are coaches who feel you should work on one defense, become the best you can at it, rather than stretch yourself with alternatives. A theory, which I disagree with, but one in which Bobby Knight has certainly had much success with.

 

 

Listerman certainly has top talent and that can make anyone look good. John Messmer proved in Ft. Thomas that talent can win an awful lot of games.

 

Messmer won over 300 games and four regional championships. Those are hall of fame type numbers. Given what the program looks like lately, those numbers look pretty good.:banana:

Four zones and man to man. Man, pardon the pun, they must spend countless time in practice on defense alone to be good at five different sets.

:dancingpa Probably why their offense is often just standing on the three point line, watching someone struggle to go one-on-one!

 

Anyways, who knows how good they are on most of those defensive sets, considering we rarely see any of them.

Then we will put Messmer in the Sandman hall of fame and Willie in the Sandman hall of shame, since you have it all figured out who is the best coach.

 

Truth is there are tons of similarities between the two both in style and ability.

CCh has had some outstanding teams which is why they're in the regional championship year in and year out...there is just one or two teams who are better than them each year. IMO I thought CCH would win region in 05 but Conner upset them.

 

This is the first year since 00 that I think CCH didn't have the more superior team. Holmes was just that good this year.
