There is no mandated size for gyms. There is a limit to what the state will help pay for. If the school system wants to build bigger they have to foot the extra expenses out their own reserves.

I agree with Pressrow... I dont think he said that Mason Co. didnt have an advantage, but the only way to solve this problem is for someone to build a gym suitable to hold the region. If you have never seen a 10th region final game you wouldnt understand. There were 6000 people there this year and what does Montgomery Co. hold?

So according to PRESSROW the only true answer is to build a bigger gym, come on. How feasible is that? I usually agree w/what PRESSROW has to say, but to me that is a cop out post. Very few schools would be able to build a new gym w/the size big enough to host the regional.

 

I for one like the games at Mason County, it is tradition. It also is an ADVANTAGE for the Royals to play on the court that they practice on and play all their home games during the regular season and sometimes the districts depending on where they are played in a particular season. There is no denying that argument, doesn't mean the best team will not win the game, it means there is an advantage.

 

There is a reason that the NCAA will not allow teams like UK, Syracuse, Louisville, or any other college team to not play in the regional sites where they play their home games. UK will never play at Rupp or the 'Cuse will never play in the Carrier Dome!

 

My post is not a cop out post, my answer is in reflection to a thread that is now almost two weeks old from the 2007 regional tournament and people still want to talk about home court advantage. There wasn't a home court advantage last Sunday in the outcome of that game between Clark and Mason as we seen the better team won that day. Its a beaten horse, I have never said I disagreed with home court advantage, I have always said when it comes down to who wins, its the best team that day no matter where the ball is tipped up. Since this thread continues to talk about home court advantage and it is concerning the fieldhouse, then those that know and love basketball seem to get tired of reading the same stuff and my answer to end the beaten horse subject is to take the home court away from Mason County and build a gym big enough to house the regional. Your right Tubbycat, very few schools wouldn't be able to build a gym, not feasible and my comment on Build a Bigger Gym is not directed towards those schools, its directed at those on here that choose to still talk about a subject that is so beaten down.

Courts are there....they also have an educational center there as well. This center could be utilized for anyone needing brush up on how the basketball games are essentially won in the end.

Thats the bottom line and has been for quite sometime.

Forget which gym provided the biggest crowds and attendance and best atmosphere ... would Mason County fans rather have the regional tournament on their home court, or at Montgomery County or Clark County?

 

The answer should be obvious.

 

Bottom line ... sure, Mason has an advantage in playing the regional tournament on their home floor. The advantage may not be as pronounced as it is during the regular season, but it's still there. This year, Clark's game-day performance overcame it.

The home court advantage is just that...an advantage. Why? Well, because the home team practices there every day. They're familiar with the floor, the rims, the background, the atmosphere. In other words, they're in a comfort zone. Plus, they don't have to drive two hours to the game. It's at least a 10 point advantage.

And that's why the NCAA doesn't allow this to happen.

To say that to play on your home court is not an advantage is ludricrous.

 

The only arguments I have seen are that Mason seats a lot of people, we can make a lot of money, and it's a tradition. Well, forget that. It's a selfish point. Money isn't everything. How about considering something called fairness. Maybe someone may not get into a game at a smaller venue. Big deal! Get there early and you get in. But Clark, Montgmery, and other parts of the region deserve an opportunity to host the region every now and then. Their fans shouldn't have to drive 2 hours every year and the schools around Maysville don't. That's not fair. That's my humble opinion. We certainly don't do it that way in the 14th region, and Knott Central's gym seats just 300 less than Mason's.
