Steve Lickert set to be named the new Holmes Coach!

Featured Replies

If that were the case; Dayton will definately be in the better position, 3, 4, 5, or 6 years from now. Presumably, Beechwood will move up to AA, where there will be more competition and that will leave Dayton in a very winnable district every year.

Unless there will be another numbers crunching session to redistrict teams, Holmes is still going to play Highlands and Cov Cath (am I wrong on this).

You are correct. However IMO, it will only get tougher and tougher to land a "big" job if he stayed at Dayton. I think he'll be successful no matter where he ends ups. But at least coming from Holmes he would eventually be able to go to a CCH, HHS, Dixie...etc.

Holmes fans, I'm talking distant, distant future here so don't get your panties in a bunch...

I think everybody so far is of the same opinion. Steve Lickert is a great coach and will help Holmes. How far they go is up to the athletes to stay out of trouble, stay in school, support from the adminstration and parents, and finally, the whole academic mess with KDE.

He did great at Dayton and will be missed dearly.

from my sources close to the school... they tell me it got pretty emotional at his meeting with the players...

Bad hire. He will be gone in a couple years. I would have liked to seen Turner come back.

What makes you so sure?

What makes you so sure?

I dont know the guy, but his record at Dayton was far from impressive. He may have tuned the pprogram around?? but IMO there was nowhere else to go but to win a few games in Dayton I think Holmes shuold have brought a more experienced coach and a coach with more work with inner city children

Is Dayton modern day suburbia?

Let's see, "there was nowhere else to go but to win a few games in Dayton." Um, yes there was...Holmes. Experience is the most overrated thing out there. Bottom line, he gets the job done. I can find a bunch of more experienced guys I wouldn't give you a dime for. Holmes got a young energetic, enthusiastic coach that preaches discipline and doing things the right way. Like others have said on here...PERFECT HIRE!!!

Never said Dayton was suburbia. Covington and Dayton are rather different places and schools. I hope it works out for the new coach and holmes but I am just not picturing a ggod outcome. I guess we will see though

My suggestion, give coach a chance...:thumb:

By the way, just for the sake of argument, how long did Mr. Turner coach at holmes?

...and isn't he close to retirement?

Why presume Beechwood will move up? They do not and will not have the numbers and there is no geographical hardship reason to allow them to move even if they wanted to. Brossart will be the likely candidate to move next time as their numbers will probably force them to become the fifth team in the 2A NKY district, as they barely qualify for 1A now.

So basically Dayton will still be in with Beechwood and Holmes will still be in with Highlands and CovCath as it is now.

Steve I had to join just to send you this message....

How did this guy not offer Coach Jones a job on the coaching staff? Maybe it was the way he ran the ball all over the Greendevils?
